Some Drugs May Be Harmful to an Unborn Baby

Women who are pregnant or are planning to get pregnant should make an inventory of the medications that they are taking, as some may be harmful to the unborn baby. Epilepsy drugs, antibiotics, treatment for severe acne, psychiatric drugs, and drugs for the treatment of heart disease are considered dangerous to take during pregnancy.

According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention of the United States government, women exposed to such drugs can either have a miscarriage or have babies born with defects.

Experts advise women to plan their pregnancies well if they are taking medications that are potentially harmful to an unborn baby. Consult your obstetrician on how to minimize the risks of the medications that you are taking if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Remember that completely stopping your medications may also do more harm than good.
