When most couples would choose to have their wedding photo shoots in conventionally romantic settings, Syrian couple Nada Merhi, 18, and Hassan Youssef, 27, chose a different route.
The war-torn ruins of Homs, which was considered the “capital of the revolution”, served as the backdrop for the young couple’s wedding photos, which have been going viral all around the world.
Posing amidst debris and ravaged areas, Nada looks absolutely stunning in a strapless, embellished white dress in the arms of fiance Hassana (a soldier in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s army) who looks dashing in his military uniform. (He was part of the army who took the city from rebels in November.)
Since 2011, the Syrian conflicts escalated into a widespread civil war that has displaced many families from their homes making the migrant crisis a global issue.
Though violence has become commonplace in their country, the couple manages to highlight the good that remains in a place that holds great significance to their relationship.
Choosing this as a location truly sends a strong message that love does conquer all.
