Flexible Learning, Onsite and Online

Studying under extraordinary conditions is possible, but requires a shift from what is familiar. Thames International students do their initial years in the Philippines before flying out to obtain their foreign degrees under a global pandemic in “Safer Countries” like the UK.

Operations Management major Tin Sion flew to the UK this January to safely pursue her Master in Business Administration at the University of South Wales (USW) despite the pandemic!

“Honestly, it’s been quite a lovely experience so far. Even if we’re from different cultures and backgrounds, there is mutual respect given the diversity. Last but not the least, with everything that has been going on, it feels nice to be surrounded by nature while still being close to the city,” says Tin.

Tin elaborates on the university’s goal hasten vaccine rollout to get the entire student body vaccinated by September. “From my experience, the university and government is doing their best to make the students, especially the international ones, feel safe during our stay here,” she mentions.

Education at your Fingertips

Students from the Philippines who wish to postpone travelling to the UK can still do so through flexible learning via Study Anytime Anywhere OnLine (SAAOL), like Valerie Villanueva and Nikka Arciaga, who are still in Manila while doing their online degrees from British universities. They plan to fly out to the UK soon. They’re slowly building their careers through inspiring means!

“Online classes shouldn’t mean that exposure to networks and cultures are limited. Being able to work with peers and classmates from different places around the globe will help me learn more about the world and be more culturally aware and sensitive,” says Nikka, who is obtaining her postgraduate program in Global Finance at the CASS Business School in London.

In a post-pandemic world that's changing in the blink of an eye, preparation becomes the key to finishing one’s education. Professionals armed with proper know-how are well-suited to adapt to the fast-paced present and get to create a Better Normal and a better world for everyone.

“Professional success is one of the main reasons why I want to take a Master’s Degree. I am confident that this will not only provide value to my resume but this will also expand my career opportunities,” adds Nikka.

Valerie is an International Business major at the University of South Wales who is under a more personalized route which she appreciates because of how easy it is for her to manage her own time. “My part-time program is designed for me to plan my self-directed study easier while still having ample time for work, hobbies, and leisure. It is also less expensive since I do not have to pay for campus facilities and living expenses,” she explains.

Despite being unable to travel to the UK for their studies, Val and Nikka remain optimistic about their future. A global pandemic won’t stop them from fulfilling their goals in life, but one’s health and safety must come first before anything else. Students from the Philippines who wish to pursue their studies in the UK can still do so online, just like Valerie and Nikka!

“An online UK degree is just as good as an on-campus one because the difficulty level is about the same, and current students rarely get a chance to have face-to-face classes in the UK due to the pandemic anyway so everything is delivered online. You might not be able to experience living in the UK yet, but you can virtually meet people who do live there and can help you out when you visit in the future,” concludes Valerie.

Safe Travels for Learning’s Sake

Immerse yourself in an e-commerce landscape with industry knowledge in your undergraduate degree! After spending two years in Thames International, Jolo Sto. Domingo is excited to spend his final year with Northumbria University London as a BS Entrepreneurship major this year. In three years, he was able to dive straight into specific classes for his field of study.

“Getting a foreign degree has been a goal ever since I was in senior high school. Though it was a goal of mine, I did not see any prominent avenues to achieve that during high school through the traditional big universities in the Philippines. Discovering this program where I

study for two years in the Philippines then transfer to one of Thames’s partner universities for the final year was an opportunity I could not pass up. Once I was accepted by Northumbria, I was excited not just to achieve my dream of getting a foreign degree, but to also experience a whole different world on my own,” muses Jolo.

“I am thrilled that I could have a chance to mold my craft internationally whereas the model gives a way for me to be with my family before I go abroad. A memorable adventure starts when we leave our comfort zones and I am elated that I could do so in an enjoyable way possible,” says Audrey.

“I am excited about making new connections with different kinds of people and becoming more independent,” beams Gabe.
