Operations Management major Tin Sion flew to the UK this January to safely pursue her Master in Business Administration at the University of South Wales (USW) despite the pandemic!
“Honestly, it’s been quite a lovely experience so far. Even if we’re from different cultures and backgrounds, there is mutual respect given the diversity. Last but not the least, with everything that has been going on, it feels nice to be surrounded by nature while still being close to the city,” says Tin.
Tin elaborates on the university’s goal hasten vaccine rollout to get the entire student body vaccinated by September. “From my experience, the university and government is doing their best to make the students, especially the international ones, feel safe during our stay here,” she mentions.

Students from the Philippines who wish to postpone travelling to the UK can still do so through flexible learning via Study Anytime Anywhere OnLine (SAAOL), like Valerie Villanueva and Nikka Arciaga, who are still in Manila while doing their online degrees from British universities. They plan to fly out to the UK soon. They’re slowly building their careers through inspiring means!
“Online classes shouldn’t mean that exposure to networks and cultures are limited. Being able to work with peers and classmates from different places around the globe will help me learn more about the world and be more culturally aware and sensitive,” says Nikka, who is obtaining her postgraduate program in Global Finance at the CASS Business School in London.

Valerie is an International Business major at the University of South Wales who is under a more personalized route which she appreciates because of how easy it is for her to manage her own time. “My part-time program is designed for me to plan my self-directed study easier while still having ample time for work, hobbies, and leisure. It is also less expensive since I do not have to pay for campus facilities and living expenses,” she explains.
Despite being unable to travel to the UK for their studies, Val and Nikka remain optimistic about their future. A global pandemic won’t stop them from fulfilling their goals in life, but one’s health and safety must come first before anything else. Students from the Philippines who wish to pursue their studies in the UK can still do so online, just like Valerie and Nikka!
“An online UK degree is just as good as an on-campus one because the difficulty level is about the same, and current students rarely get a chance to have face-to-face classes in the UK due to the pandemic anyway so everything is delivered online. You might not be able to experience living in the UK yet, but you can virtually meet people who do live there and can help you out when you visit in the future,” concludes Valerie.

“I am excited about making new connections with different kinds of people and becoming more independent,” beams Gabe.
