Being able to work from home is a dream come true for some people, especially moms and dads. However, it’s not always the best fit for everyone.

You’ll be able to save a lot of money from commuting, eating outside, etc. but you also need to know that working from home can also have some drawbacks.

But how do you know if working from home is right for you? Here are 6 things to consider.

6 Things to consider if you want to work from home

1. Are you okay with less social interaction?

If you’re working from home, the people you’ll mostly interact with would be your family. Sure, you might use a messaging app or software to talk to your co-workers, or to your boss, but when it comes to face-to-face contact, you won’t really have any choice.

If you’re fine with being with your family even when you’re working then working from home is a good fit for you. Otherwise, if you need social interaction in order to work better, working in an office might suit you better.

2. Are you able to work with minimal supervision?

This is a very important thing to consider when you’re working from home. Some people work best if they have someone looking over their back, or guiding them, while others work well when unsupervised.

For the most part, working from home means that you’ll work with only minimal supervision, and it’s important to still perform well and do your tasks well even if you’re unsupervised.

3. Can you focus on your work while at home?

This is another important thing to consider. Working from home means that you’ll have a lot of distractions, and you need to be able to focus on your work or else your efficiency will suffer.

If you can be sure that you’ll be able to finish your work and do it without any problems, even if you’re at home, then that’s a good sign.

4. Can you take care of your taxes and contributions?

Another thing to remember is that you need to be the one to file all of your taxes, as well as your contributions. These include Pag-Ibig, SSS, Philhealth, etc. Some people might not opt to pay these contributions and taxes to save money, but all you’re doing is making it more difficult for yourself in the future.

It’s important to pay your taxes and contributions, since you’ll be able to benefit from them in the future anyway, especially for the Pag-Ibig, SSS, and Philhealth contributions.

5. Can you meet deadlines?

Working from home can sometimes make you feel that you’re not rushing for any deadlines, since you’re just at home. That’s why it’s important to be able to manage your time well and to be able to focus on your work when you need to do so.

Time management and finding a balance between your responsibilities at home and your job are both very important.

6. Are you okay with having no leaves, or holiday pay?

Lastly, if you’re working from home, you won’t have any leaves, nor holiday pay. Most people who work from home also work on a contractual basis, so your rate will be the same throughout. You also rarely get any extra pay from working overtime, so that’s another thing you will need to consider.
