Dads, here’s a list of 8 things that you should never say to your pregnant wives!
1. I know how you feel
Unless you know exactly how being pregnant for 9 months feels, then you probably shouldn’t say this to your wife. Instead, it’s best to say “I’m sorry you feel that way”, or “Is there anything I can do for you?”
2. Didn’t you just finish eating?
Never comment about your wife’s appetite during her pregnancy. It makes your wife feel insecure, and she’ll probably get mad at you as well. Just keep your comments about your wife’s increased appetite to yourself. Plus, your wife’s also providing nutrition for your newborn child, so it’s understandable that she would start eating more food.
3. Why are you crying?
It’s normal for pregnant women to become more emotional because of the hormones in their bodies. And chances are, your wife doesn’t like it if she’s crying all the time. Just be supportive of your wife and try to be more understanding.
4. Can you calm down?
Pregnancy is stressful, and you can’t fault your wife for being very emotional during her pregnancy. Be there for her and try to be more patient and understanding of her feelings.
5. I just had a good night’s sleep!
It’s hard for pregnant women to have a good night’s sleep, so don’t go about bragging that you slept well last night, unless you want your wife to get really mad at you!
6. Wouldn’t it be great if we spaced our children a year apart?
Being pregnant is hard, and you should let your wife decide on when she’s ready to have another child. Don’t make the decision for her, especially since she will be the one to carry your child.
7. How long do you think it will take for you to slim down after giving birth?
No, just don’t ask this question ever. Don’t even think about asking your wife this question. Pregnant women are self-conscious as it is, and you’re not doing your wife any favors by asking her when she can slim down.
8. I forgot to tell you, but I invited my parents to the delivery room
Always ask your wife’s permission if you’re inviting people into the delivery room. While your child is as much yours as it is theirs, giving birth is a very intimate and vulnerable experience for your wife, and she needs to be the one to decide on who she wants to be there when she gives birth.
