Each day, married men encounter different women in the workplace or at the gym. They may even maintain close friendships with women, some of whom they may have been close to even before they met their spouses. While their interactions with members of the opposite sex may be harmless, there are certain things that should be avoided by a man who truly loves his wife. Good husbands can remain faithful by steering clear of the following things, according to FamilyShare.

1. Marital issues

While it’s perfectly fine to confide in friends, there are certain private problems that should be kept private, especially if it concerns their marriage. In opening up to the opposite sex, men often do not notice the amount of time and emotion needed to maintain this friendship. It could be dangerous, especially if they’re going through a tough time.

2. Complaints about their spouse

Your spouse is not perfect, but whatever issues you have with them need to be resolved between the two of you. A healthy respectful, relationship thrives on honest and open communication. No good can come from ranting about your wife to another woman.

3. Complimenting her too much

It’s good to appreciate female friends or colleagues’ great attributes, but men should take care not to overdo this. Consistent flattery could send women “mixed messages,” because excessive praise could easily be misconstrued as flirtation.

4. Complimenting inappropriate things

An example of this is commenting or praising a woman’s body. It doesn’t matter if your motivation is simply to boost your friend or co-worker’s confidence, these types of compliments could easily be misunderstood.

5. Inviting her to hang out alone

No matter how innocent the intent, asking a female friend or co-worker to hang out may be misinterpreted. Be sure to hang out in big groups, including your wife, if possible. This is especially important when you’re going through a difficult time in your marriage.

6. Giving her a “cute nickname”

Even if you’ve been close for years, giving a woman a “cute pet name” is a form of endearment that should only be reserved for your wife. Men often don’t think too much of this, because it’s often a lighthearted joke, but it could lead to constant fondness and often, closeness that crosses the line.

7. The possible end of your marriage

If you’re contemplating separation, seek help from a professional, close relative or a church leader. Best of all, if you have deep, long-running problems that can’t seem to be fixed, you should talk directly to your wife. Confiding in a female friend when you’re extremely vulnerable may not be the best idea.
