Let’s be honest here, kids tend to have gross habits. And it’s not really their fault since, after all, they’re just kids.

But are these gross habits really bad for them, or should parents just let them outgrow those habits?

1. Picking their noses

If your child constantly picks their nose, then it might be a good idea to try and break that habit.

Picking your nose isn’t bad because the boogers are dirty (they are, but your child won’t get sick because of it). The problem lies in the fact that too much nose picking can cause your child to have a nosebleed, and that’s what you should be worried about.

2. Licking dirty surfaces

If your child has a tendency to lick dirty surfaces like the floor, tables, or doorknobs, it’s also a good idea to teach them to break that habit since it can get them sick.

However, you’ll be surprised to know that person-to-person contact especially with a sick person, has a higher chance of causing your child to fall ill.

3. Scratching their butts (or their privates)

Kids aren’t always too keen on their personal hygiene, and sometimes kids don’t wipe down properly after using the bathroom, which can cause them to get itchy and sometimes have rashes and infections.

Make sure to teach your child how to wipe and wash themselves properly, and to make sure to teach them to always wash their hands.

4. Wiping their nose on their shirt

It might seem gross to see your kid wipe their nose on the sleeves of their shirt or on the bottom of their shirt, but it’s actually safer than wiping it on their hands.

If you’re worried about their hygiene, make sure that they always have a hanky with them.

5. Peeing in the pool

It sounds pretty gross, but even some adults are guilt of peeing in the pool. And if you think that it’s an okay thing to do, it’s really not.

If the urine mixes with the chlorine, it can create chemicals that irritate eyes and even damage the pool. So make sure your kids don’t turn swimming pools into a toilet. Not only is it a bad habit, but it can also cause problems for other people swimming in the pool. And it’s just plain gross!

6. Chewing

Is your kid constantly chewing on their fingernails? How about their pencil erasers, or maybe the caps of pens they use in class?

If your child is a chewer, don’t worry too much about it. It’s usually just a phase, and they’ll eventually grow out of it.

7. Picking at their scabs

Your kid’s scabs might feel itchy, and they’re usually inclined to pick at it or scratch it until it falls off. However, it’s best to teach your kids to just leave those scabs alone, since they help protect your child’s wound from infection.

Plus, their wounds would heal faster if they didn’t pick at the scabs.

8. Farting

Farts are stinky, and sometimes funny, but it isn’t something that you should be too worried about.

However, if your child farts a lot, then you might want to change their diet a bit. Fried foods, beans, as well as dairy can sometimes cause your little one to become very flatulent.
