Life isn’t easy for mothers who have just given birth. Their bodies are still healing from delivery. They are in pain. They don’t sleep that long and that often. And top of it all, they have to breastfeed.
Breastfeeding isn’t easy. (In fact there are mothers who can’t breastfeed at all.)
This Californian mother believes that women should be able to speak out about the struggles she and and many others like her face when it comes to breastfeeding.
Elaine Bellis is a recent mother to beautiful twin daughters Quincy and Rowe.
In an Instagram post showing her breastfeeding her twins, the art director and mother of three confessed the troubles she’s having which come from breastfeeding.
“Due to the way my birth went and excess of fluids in my body and trauma, my breasts aren’t able to supply even enough milk for one baby,” she laments.
“I never thought I would have problems breastfeeding and realize now I did the absolute best I could do.”
She also thanks her friends who have been supplying her milk for the twins, saying how lucky she is to have them.
“I also feel like people don’t talk about how hard breastfeeding can be and if you can BF you’re incredibly lucky.
“I pump all day to be able to provide my girls with one ounce of my milk, and I’ve excepted that’s the best I can do. All I can give them is my love and that’s most important.”
Breastfeeding can be a long and difficult process, says Ashley Austrew of Scary Mommy.
“Lots of moms struggle to breastfeed, but we tend to only hear about the success stories,” she said.
“We see these gorgeous, ethereal breastfeeding photos and hear women talk about how rewarding their years-long nursing relationships have been.
“But there are women for whom breastfeeding doesn’t go as planned or doesn’t work out at all, and their stories are just as important.”
