According to reports, the 2-year-old was sitting beside the elevator with his mother, when he placed his hand on the handrail, and then immediately got stuck on the handrail entry device.

They had to break the escalator to free the child

Thankfully, the mall's guards and some passersby immediately went to help free the child's hand from the escalator. After some struggles, the guards were forced to break the glass and the aluminum base of the elevator in order to free the child's hand.

According to the mall's statement, they provided enough warnings and safety reminders for the mall-goers to avoid any incidents involving their escalators. They add that they posted safety reminders on the escalators in their mall as a safety measure.

It is still unsure whether or not the child's family will be filing a complaint against the mall.
