One mother, shares the harrowing experience that her daughter went through after she got RSV, a serious respiratory infection from one of her cousins who at the time, had a respiratory illness.
“She shouldn’t be contagious”
Laura Correada-
According to Laura, her daughter caught RSV, a severe respiratory infection from one of her cousins who visited them. Laura’s brother shared told her that “Oh she has a lung infection but she shouldn’t be contagious.”
Laura added that Chloe had asthma, so she was particularly susceptible to lung infections, and as a result, she caught RSV from her cousin. What makes things even more complicated is the fact that RSV has no vaccine, and the symptoms are similar to the common cold, which makes most parents think that it isn’t serious at first.
Thankfully, Chloe is now on her way to recovery, and Laura’s asking for prayers to help her little girl get well as soon as possible.
Know when it’s okay to keep your sick kids at home
What happened to Chloe is an example of how sick kids, even if they feel okay, can infect other children and even cause a worse infection.
This is mainly due to the fact that kids’ bodies react differently to infection, and what might seem like a harmless cold to one child can actually be a life-threatening disease to another.
Parents need to know when it’s okay to take their sick kids outside, and when it’s better to let them stay at home. If you’re visiting relatives with children, or if you have people visiting with their kids and your child is sick, you need to inform them beforehand of your child’s condition. That way, you can prevent your child from spreading their infection to other children.
And if your child is sick, or has just recently recovered, it’s still best to let them rest for a couple of days in order to get their strength back. At the end of the day, the important thing is to not just think of your own child’s welfare, but also be considerate of how your actions can impact other children.
