6 behaviors that people in happy marriages try to avoid

What defines a ‘happy’ marriage can vary for most people, but if there’s anything that people in happy marriages have in common, it’s that they avoid these 6 behaviors:

Making their spouse feel bad

Some people like putting other people down in order to feel good about themselves. This type of behavior, especially in a marriage, is something that should never be done, since it only serves to hurt other people.

Love should be kind, and love should be caring. Your spouse should be there to build you up, inspire you, and uplift you so that you can be a better person.

Lying

No matter what anyone says, lying in a relationship is wrong. Being honest with your spouse helps build trust, and it’s important to always keep it that way.

If the truth can hurt your spouse, you still should be honest, but it’s also important to choose the right words to say it. Honesty is not an excuse to be insensitive.

Cheating

This should be pretty self-explanatory. Cheating has no place in any long-lasting relationship, and while some relationships survive through this problem, it should never be something that anyone has to go through.

Cheating is wrong, plain and simple.

Too much jealousy in the relationship

Some people are naturally jealous. But for the most part, they can keep it in check; some even find it cute or endearing whenever their partner becomes jealous.

However, some people become too jealous, and it can border on psychopathic behavior. Some jealous people even become paranoid and think that their spouse might be cheating on them, when in reality, it’s all in their head.

Like most things, too much jealousy is bad. So it’s important to avoid jealousy in your relationship. If you have any problems, talk it out with your spouse.

Guilt tripping

Guilt should never be used to force people to do things. If your spouse is not comfortable with doing something, you should never guilt them into doing it.

Forcing someone to do something that’s against their will is wrong, especially in the context of a relationship.

Not supporting your dreams

Even if you’re already married, it doesn’t mean that your entire life should revolve around your spouse and your family. It’s just as important for you to have dreams of your own, and for your spouse to be supportive and do everything that they can to inspire you.

Your spouse should be your ‘cheerleader’ and keep you inspired and looking ahead to improve yourself.
