A woman in Wallenfels, Germany called authorities last Friday, November 13, after finding the corpse of a baby wrapped in a towel and stuffed in a plastic bag in her neighbor’s apartment.
Upon investigation, 6 more bodies were found in a locked cabinet inside the apartment, reports CNN.
And then later on in the same day, another dead newborn wrapped the same way was found by authorities.
It is suspected that the previous occupant, a 45-year-old woman, is the mother of the 8 dead babies.
According to the Guardian, the said woman has been arrested along with a 55-year-old man.
Neighbors describe the suspect, who lived in the apartment for 18 years, as a “nice woman”. They had three children but the suspect had four other kids from previous relationships.
The couple moved out in September and during one of their fights, the neighbor overheard the suspect, who was drunk, saying she had hidden babies in their apartment. This prompted her to search the apartment.
As of this writing, forensic results are expected to come out next week because the bodies are in poor condition.
The increasing number of infanticide cases in eastern Germany has led to the creation of “Baby hatches” which allow for anonymity when giving up unwanted babies.
