RIP Brangelina: Angelina Jolie files for divorce from Brad Pitt

It's the end of an era!

Say it ain’t so! One of our favorite celebrity couples has filed for divorce after 12 years together, breaking all of our hearts.

According to a report from CNN, Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from her husband of 2 years (and partner for 12) Brad Pitt.

“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids,” Pitt told CNN. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

Jolie’s camp released a similar statement to E! News:

“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest to protect her children,” said Geyer Kosinski, Jolie’s manager. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

Jolie cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce Monday, seeking physical custody of their 6 kids while giving Pitt visitation rights. She did not seek for spousal support from Pitt.

On the next page: some possible reasons behind Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce.

Jolie and Pitt met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004, when Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston. Rumors about their relationship soon filled the tabloids, and in January 2005, Aniston and Pitt separated, divorcing a few months later.

Jolie and Pitt adopted son Maddox, 15, from Cambodia in 2005; daughter Zahara, 11, from Ethiopia in 2006; son Pax from Vietnam in 2007. They have three biological children: daughter Shiloh, 10; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.

The two married in August 2014, and in the divorce papers, Jolie noted September 15, 2016 as their official date of separation.

There are several speculations regarding what caused Jolie to file for divorce. Some say that Jolie and Pitt clashed over their parenting styles, while others claim that Jolie had found out that her husband was having an affair with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard.

These reports are still unconfirmed, but whatever Jolie’s reasons are, at least both parents seem to have their kids’ best interests at heart.
