Each year, Undas or All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, brings families together in memory of departed loved ones but it also raises the risk of our unattended homes being broken into.
So authorities are on full alert during the weekend to prevent the incidence of home invasion and other crimes.
As early as last week, the PNP has put security measures in place in preparation for the coming weekend.

Things to remember before leaving your house during Undas
- Make sure there are no unlocked entry points for anyone looking to break in and steal by locking all the doors and windows.
- Let your trusted neighbor to look over your house and also let them know when you will be coming back.
- If it’s possible, turn on the lights especially on dark areas of your house.
- It is preferable if you install a burglar alarm to notify the neighbors if someone enters your home unauthorizedly.
- A dog serving as an animal barrier could be helpful.
- A TV or pricey equipment should not be placed next to a window.
- All the items outside your home that could be stolen should be brought inside.
- Avoid sharing on social media the important information about your plans to leave the house.
- Make sure to save and remember the hotline numbers of your subdivision’s security unit, baranggay office and the police station.

- Don’t leave any unattended candles, gas stoves, leaking faucets, or plugged-in appliances to avoid causing fire.
- Secure all goods, including clothing that is drying on hangers.
- Bring enough food and water, and be aware that it is against the law to sell alcohol and food within the cemetery.
- Bring weather- and heat-resistant clothing and umbrella.
- Do not bring loud speakers, gambling equipment, or weapons with blades. It is prohibited.
- Make sure your candles won’t start flames by keeping a close eye on everything you bring into cemeteries.
- Remind kids not to wander, particularly in crowded places. Make sure they have identification on them or are wearing it.
- Bring your own trash bag to deposit garbage in and keep the area clean.
- Be aware of the locations of the PNP assistance booths and first aid facilities in case you require police assistance or an emergency.
