The amazing story of a boy who brings his little brother everyday to school so that he can take care of him has gone viral on social media.
He didn’t want to miss his classes
According to the Facebook post, the boys’ mother died last year because of an ectopic pregnancy. Since no one else would be able to take care of his brother, and he didn’t want to miss his classes, he took it upon himself to bring his little brother to class while their father works as a carpenter in a nearby town.
The photo was taken by Shyla Blasico, a teacher from J. Blanco Elementary School in South Cotabato. She shared that she took the photo and uploaded it to social media in an attempt to help the family.
She shares, “Hindi naman makulit ang bata, nakaupo lang. Kung matutulog may divan kami, doon pinahiga ang bata. Lahat po sila pinapakain namin. May feeding program kasi every lunch sponsored by DepEd (Department of Education).”
Ever since sharing the photo, the teacher said that she has received a lot of positive reactions as well as offers from people who are willing to help the kids.
She said that more than money, the family need food as well as school supplies.
We’ve reached out to the teacher who posted the photo online. Check back here for more updates regarding their story.
Teaching our children compassion
Now, with all of the things that are happening to the country, it’s very important to teach our kids how to be more compassionate. Here are some ways to go about it:
- Set an example. A good way to teach your kids compassion is by being compassionate yourself. Your positive actions are learned by your children, so you need to show them compassion first-hand so that they can practice it themselves.
- Take care of a pet. Having a pet is a wonderful way to teach your kids responsibility and compassion. Caring for a pet would make your children understand just how important it is to care for others and not just themselves.
- Volunteer. Another good way of teaching compassion would be to volunteer you and your kids’ time to a worthy cause.
- Talk to them about helping others. Make being compassionate a part of their daily lives. Let your kids understand that any little way that they can help others around them is a form of compassion, and that everyone equally deserves their help.
Hopefully, these tips can ensure that your kids will grow up to be compassionate and loving adults.
