A 12-year-old boy named Keanu Ray Requilman had died after drowning in Nagtabon Beach, Barangay Bacungan, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
It was his birthday
According to reports, Keanu and his family were in Nagtabon beach to celebrate the 12-year-old’s birthday. After eating, the boy went swimming out in the sea, but he didn’t come back.
Police Inspector Felix Rivera, Station Commander of the Irawan Police shares, “Bale itong victim natin dito ay nagse-celebrate nung birthday niya, so around 12:45 nung hapon nitong Sabado… pumunta itong victim doon sa medyo malayong part, 20 meters away doon sa tabi ng dagat and then bigla nalang nakarinig yung pamilya ng mga sumisigaw na may nalulunod na…”
They attempted to revive him
Some residents of the area desperately tried to resuscitate Keanu, while the other residents tried to call for help, but it was difficult since cellphone signals were weak in the area.
Keanu was then taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
This wasn’t the first time that someone had died while swimming in Nagtabon Beach. Aside from the strong currents in the area, visitors complained of a lack of lifeguards and safety precautions in Nagtabon Beach.
Meanwhile, authorities urge beach-goers to always be careful when swimming and to make sure that their children are under constant supervision.
