Over the past week, the internet has been abuzz after young actor Diego Loyzaga blasted his dad Cesar Montano on social media. Netizens have been divided as to who they believe more. Many think Diego was right for calling out his “hypocrite” dad, while others sided with Cesar who mainly acted out of concern for his son, who is rumored to by entangled in drugs.

A few days after Diego’s outbursts, Cesar Montano finally broke his silence by speaking to one of his closest friends, entertainment columnist Dolly Anne Carvajal.

According to her Inquirer column, Cesar called her to explain the issue, asking to keep certain things private, adding that he is just being a concerned dad to his son.

“Even if my late dad never pampered me and didn’t buy me material gifts because we were poor, I am still thankful to him,” Cesar said in the interview. “I never lambasted him for the tough life we had. Our struggles made me learn the value of hard work.”

According to the report, the father and son may not have been on the same “wavelength” when they spoke, which possibly led to the misunderstanding, which has now been blown out of proportion.

“He has a problem. There is nothing I want more than to be able to help him. I only want what’s best for him. He is my son. I love him.”

The 54-year-old actor also spoke to the Manila Bulletin’s Shirley Pizzaro. In the interview, Cesar also admitted that he was hurt by Diego’s outbursts.

“I am hurt. But all I did was try and protect him like any father would,” he empashized. “He has a problem. There is nothing I want more than to be able to help him. I only want what’s best for him. He is my son. I love him.”

A day after his social media rants, the 21-year-old actor shared the negative results of a drug test which he took in October 2016, seemingly in defense to rumors that he has fallen into drug addiction.

In early 2016, Diego was involved in a bar brawl at high-end club in the Fort. In a report by PEP, Diego and a group of 10 to 15 friends allegedly mauled a guy they had a disagreement with, leaving him unconscious and bleeding. The report also alleged it was Diego who instigated the fight by throwing the first punch when it could have all been resolved calmly.

Diego is the son of Cesar with former partner, actress Teresa Loyzaga.
