Child dies after eating tainted meat in GenSan

Child dies after eating tainted meat in GenSan

A 2-year-old boy has died and his 3-year-old brother was rushed to the hospital after they allegedly ate tainted binagoongang baboy.

According to reports, a 2-year-old boy from GenSan died after eating tainted meat that was being sold by one of their neighbors.

Their other neighbors also experienced stomach aches

The child’s mother, Hanna Pulancos, believes that her child died after eating tainted meat that was being sold by one of their neighbors. She shares that they bought binagoongang baboy that was being sold by their neighbors. Barely an hour after eating the meat, she said that she and her family experienced stomach aches and that her two kids were severely affected.

According to doctors, this was an indication of food poisoning due to accute gastroenteritis. Aside from her and her 2 kids, several of her other neighbors also experienced stomach aches after eating the tainted meat.

Hanna Pulancos was also involved in an argument with Manel Cabaron, whose brother was the one who sold them the binagoongang baboy.

Parents have to be extra careful

Doctors warn that parents should be extra careful whenever they buy food for their families, especially if they’re buying already cooked food since they don’t know how the meat was prepared or if the necessary safety precautions when handling meat were followed.

Additionally, Cabaron’s family will be providing assistance to the Pulancos family. They add that they also feel responsible for the child’s death and they are willing to extend any help that they can in order to make amends.

Make sure your meat is safe

It’s very important to make sure that the food we feed our families are clean, and safe so that we can avoid any cases of food poisoning. Here are some helpful tips when it comes to preparing meat:

  1. Make sure to wash your hands before handling meat in order to avoid contaminating the meat.
  2. The meat should be well cooked and not raw since cooking it well-done would ensure that the bacteria inside the meat has been killed by the heat.
  3. Use separate knives and chopping boards when cooking veggies and meat in order to avoid cross-contamination.
  4. When defrosting meat, never put it outside. Always place it inside your fridge so that it can defrost slowly, and not be exposed to heat which can cause bacteria to grow in the meat.
  5. Make sure that the meat you’re buying is fresh and clean.
