They say you appreciate your beloved mom even more when you become yourself. Mom-of-two Danica Sotto-Pingris knows this to be true. In a recent interview on ABS-CBN’s Magandang Buhay, the actress and entrepreneur paid tribute to her mom, who raised her and her brother Oyo Boy Sotto by herself.
“Kinaya mo mag-isa,” she lovingly told her mom during the interview. “At 19 years old, kinaya mo kaming i-raise kami ni Oyo.”
(You made it on your own. At 19 years old, you managed to raise me and Oyo.)
Though they have a close relationship, they also experienced conflict. In the past, Danica recalls how they clashed because she found her mom “too strict.”
“Pero ngayon it all makes sense na para pala sa akin ang lahat nang ginagawa niya and she never complained,” clarified Danica, recalling how her moms ex-boyfriend wanted to marry her and go abroad but Dina refused, not wanting to leave her kids behind.
(But now it all makes sense that all she did was for my benefit and she never complained.)
“Sabi niya, ‘I can not leave my kids, my kids are my priorities.’ So, she had to sacrifice a lot for Oyo and I, kahit ‘yung personal happiness niya. Kaya happy ako ngayon na she’s with my stepdad na,” she went on, referring to Dina’s husband Deogracias Victor Savellano.
(She said, ‘I can not leave my kids, my kids are my priorities.’ So, she had to sacrifice a lot for Oyo and I, even her personal happiness. That’s why I’m happy now that she’s with my stepdad.)
“Now, ‘yung love na ibinigay niya sa akin, my kids can experience the same kind of love, higit pa.”
“Now, ‘yung love na ibinigay niya sa akin, my kids can experience the same kind of love, higit pa,” said the mom, who has two kids—Jean Michael, 8 and Anielle Michaela, 5.
(“Now, the love that she gave me, my kids can experience the same kind of love, even more.”)
For her part, Dina also opened up about how proud she is of daughter Danica for being such a good mom and devoted wife.
“I’m very proud of you Danica, even dumaan ka sa times na rebel without a cause. Pero when you changed, talagang 180 degrees. Sobrang responsible mom, hands-on mom, a very loving wife, sobrang asikaso kay Marc,” she said, revealing how they got closer when Danica got married. “She can’t stand a week without me. So talagang I love her so much.”
(I’m very proud of you Danica, even if you went through a ‘rebel without a cause’ phase. But when you changed, it was really a 180-degree transformation. You’re such a responsible mom, hands-on mom, a very loving wife, you take care of Marc so well.)
As for her son-in-law Marc, Dina believes Danica is lucky to have him and vice-versa.
The proud grandma also gushed in a previous interview with PEP, how proud she is of both Danica and Oyo Boy, who now has four kids with wife Kristine Hermosa.
“Happily married sila, maayos ang buhay nila because they have God as the center of their lives,” she said with pride. “Yung mga apo ko, hay naku, I’m very happy with my apos, I’m very proud of them.”
(“They’re happily married, their lives are good because they God at the center of their lives. My grandkids, oh my, I’m very happy with my grandkids. I’m very proud of them.”)
