Family of slain 17-year-old seek justice over her untimely death

Family of slain 17-year-old seek justice over her untimely death

The family of Mitzi Joy Balunsay, a 17-year-old college student whose body was found chopped up inside a cardboard box, are crying for justice over her death.

Mitzi Joy Balunsay was just like any other teenager, full of hope, dreams, and she had her whole future ahead of her. Sadly, her life was cut short when she was brutally murdered by an alleged ‘ex-boyfriend’.

They found that the box contained the chopped up remains of a young lady

Residents of Barangay De Ocampo, Trece Martires Cavite, were shocked and horrified when they found a a box containing the chopped up remains of a young lady.

Upon further investigation, they found IDs and documents that identified her as a local teenager named Mitzi Joy Balunsay, who had been missing for a few days.

According to her parents, Mitzi Joy told them that she would be going out for enrolment in Cavite State University, where she was a scholar. They later received a text from a different number, her saying that she would be staying at a classmate’s house so that she could finish her enrolment earlier the next day.

When Mitzi didn’t go home the next day, that’s when her family started to get worried.

The suspect was obsessed with the victim

Mitzi’s aunt already had an inkling that it wasn’t her who was sending the text messages since Mitzi usually ends her texts with ‘I love you’.

Once Mitzi’s body was found and identified, police immediately conducted an investigation and a search into who could have done the brutal murder.

Urged by his conscience, the suspect, Alvin delos Angeles, 20, surrendered to the police. According to police reports, the suspect was apparently obsessed with the victim, adding that the suspect said that he and the victim were in a relationship for 4 months, and that he was trying to get back together with her.

“Nung nakita ko yung anak ko, nasa morgue siya”

According to Mitzi’s father, the last time she saw her daughter alive was when she left for enrolment. The next time he saw her, she was already in the morgue.

The suspect preyed on the victim’s religious nature by saying that one of his siblings died, and that there was a pray-over at their home. However, he took Mitzi to a friend’s apartment and then choked and killed her before raping her.

Once the deed was done, he chopped up her body, put it in a box, and left it on the side of the road.

The suspect said that he killed Mitzi because she did not want to get back together with him after she ended their 4-month relationship. In an interview, the suspect asked forgiveness from the victim’s family, as well as her friends in the theater group that both of them were a part of.

Mitzi’s entire family is seeking justice for her brutal death.
