Being hurt is part of every child’s life; in fact, it is one of those things that make childhood memorable. Every scratch and bruise and scar have stories to tell. But for Maddison Wentworth, one simple fall ended her life.
She had had been looking forward to her school’s field day activities, getting ready for things such as sack races, softball tosses and water-balloon fights.
But during a game of tug-of-war, Maddison fell to the ground, unconscious.
The school nurses who had been standing by rushed to her aid and performed CPR. When they couldn’t bring her to consciousness, Maddison was brought to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to Fox News, Maddison’s mother Leslie received the call from the school at lunchtime, saying that her daughter had collapsed and may have suffered from a seizure.
“They continued the life-saving methods on the way to the hospital, but at some point, she was pronounced dead,” said Pell City police spokesman Don Newton to Al.com.

It remains unclear what had happened that day, but according to CBS affiliate WIAT, a parent whose daughter was on the opposing team, said that Maddison had complained about a headache and dizziness collapsing.
Maddison was a sixth-grader and a member of her school’s science club, said her mom.
“She was a beautiful kid. She was a bright star,” Lesie said to reporters of WVTM. “She was going to go places.”
Concerned friends and relatives have since set up a GoFundMe page for Maddison’s family.
“Sadly, at the young age of 13, Maddie was called home and every parent’s nightmare came true for Maddie’s parents,” said GoFundMe page. “The cause is still unknown at this time and we will update as soon as we know more. This family is going through more than any should ever have to endure. Lets help take some of the burden off and help with the financial side of this horrific time in their lives.”
