Lola Coring and her husband Lolo Paciano’s amazing love story featured on GMA last December 20. Sadly, she died in a fire barely a week after.
The fire displaced over 1,000 families
The grandmother from NIA Road, Quezon City was reported as the only fatality in the blaze. The fire razed over 500 homes, and displaced over 1,000 families.
The families are currently staying inside the Barangay Pinyahan covered court, while others had to make do with living on the road near their homes.
All the families affected are struggling to figure out how to recover from the tragedy.
The only part left intact was her heart
Lola Coring was the only fatality since she had difficulty walking and was unable to leave her home in time, and no one else was able to help her. Her burned body was found near the doorway, the only part left intact was her heart.
Her husband, Lolo Paciano, was out when the fire happened, working hard to earn money to buy medicine for his sick wife.
The couple’s story of love in spite of their hardships was recently featured in a show on GMA. They were also given Christmas gifts by the reporters.
Lolo Paciano is still in shock about what happened to his wife. When asked about her, he said: “Buhay pa, sabi nila sa barangay, buhay pa. Sobrang mahal ko si Coring. Habambuhay kami’y magsasama pa.”

Fire safety tips
Almost everyone knows just how scary fires can be. That’s why it’s important for us to always practice these safety tips so that our home and our families are always safe.
- Keep any matches, lighters, or any potential source of fire away from your kids. It’s also important to teach them that these things are unsafe, and should never be played with.
- Make sure to have smoke detectors inside your home. Smoke detectors can be a tad expensive, but it’s a small price to pay for the safety of your family.
- Have fire drills in your home. Some people might think that it’s a bit too much to practice fire drills at home, but it’s very important for everyone to know what to do in case a fire breaks out. The rule is to go outside, and don’t hide inside your home.
- If a fire breaks out, immediately go down on all fours to avoid smoke inhalation. Majority of deaths stemming from fires are actually caused by smoke inhalation, and not the flames themselves.
- Keep emergency numbers handy. Always have a phone on hand, and keep the number for emergency services on speed dial. That way, if anything happens, you can immediately receive assistance.
