Halloween 2021 in the Philippines: Indoor Halloween activities
1. Wear your spooky costume
Halloween is not complete without wearing your Halloween costumes. Let your kids wear their favorite spooky costumes. You can buy online or create your own. You can try these Filipino Mythical Creatures costumes:
- Maria Makiling costume – You just have to dress simply like a diwata. You will need a flowy dress or top and skirt, and minimal nature-centric accessories such as a flower that you can pin on your hair.
- White Lady – A white lady costume is one of the popular mythological creatures. A white dress is all you need (not necessarily a new one), preferably one that you are already looking to throw away so you can use brown and black eyeshadow to add smudges of “dirt” to it. Drip or splash some red food coloring too, to create “bloodstains”.
- The insect summoner (mambabarang) – You will need to wrap a cloth or scarf around your head and top it off with a skull and feathers. Fashion another two scarves — one as a malong draped across your torso and another as a bahag. Use eyeliner to create dark circles and wrinkles on your face.
- The voodooist (mangkukulam) – For mommies, you can wear your dark-colored dress and match it with scary makeup. Use a foundation that’s a shade or two lighter than your normal skin tone, and use an eyebrow pencil or eyeliner to draw wrinkles on your face. Dust baby powder or flour on your hair to make it grey. Complete your look by bringing around a doll and needle.
2. Trick or treats
Halloween is for kids and kids at heart. Sweets and candies can bring joy to your friendly-neighborhood spiderman. You can also bake your own kind of sweets like monster cookies.
You don’t have to worry about giving them something sweet to eat. All you have to do is set a basket full of candies or baked cookies and signage in front of your house. Let them choose their treats. There, they can experience traditional ways of celebrating Halloween.
3. Set up a scavenger hunt
This activity can be done inside your house. It requires items that are needed to find by the participants using the clues given to them. Setting up your scavenger hunt is super easy. Once you’ve downloaded the set available online, simply print and cut out the clue cards.
If you’d like, you can add your own clues by writing on the blank cards that are also included. Then use the instructions to place the clues around the house. Be sure to add a fun surprise for the end!
4. Scary storytelling
Filipino households are fond of telling stories about mythical creatures or their own scary experiences. You can share them with your kids while eating snacks in your garden. This would be perfect during night hours when you can feel eerie in the dark.

Don’t forget to decorate your house with Halloween stuff like pumpkins and crafts. You can do this with your kids to boost their creativity. The kiddos will have such fun putting on a puppet show with homemade paper bag monster puppets and festive and happy Halloween finger puppets.

Movie list for kids this 2021 Halloween in the Philippines
If you prefer to just relax during this spooky night. Here’s a movie list for kids to help you decide what to watch:
-
Earwig and the Witch
Growing up in an orphanage in the British countryside, Earwig has no idea that her mother had magical powers. Her life changes dramatically when a strange couple takes her in, and she is forced to live with a selfish witch.
-
NightBooks
A kid is abducted by a witch who demands he write her a new horrifying tale every night. He obliges, but only so he can plot his escape with another prisoner.
-
The Addams Family
This is a perfect starter scary movie for kids, because it looks macabre, like the old cartoons, but most of the ghoulish elements are played for laughs. And, in the end, there’s a not-so-scary message about acceptance.
-
Frankenweenie
This movie — from Tim Burton, the master of kid-appropriate horror — is a twist on a classic Frankenstein tale, only about a kid STEM enthusiast instead of a mad scientist. The black-and-white, stop-motion animation keeps it from getting too scary.
-
The Spiderwick Chronicles
A family moves into a creepy old house in the middle of nowhere, only to discover a world of fairies, goblins, and other unseen creatures. The scares come from suspenseful run-ins with goblins and ogres.
