A new study by the American Academy of Pediatrics claims that kids raised by gay dads are just as well-adjusted as this with straight parents.
In spite of the challenges that come with being raised by gay parents, these kids turned out to be healthy and happy.
The study, entitled ”Experiences of Children with Gay Fathers”, included 732 gay fathers across the U.S. By way of an online survey, researchers found that 88% of kids of gay parents were neither unhappy nor depressed. The results were then compared to a CDC study which was 87%.
72% of dads agreed that their child did not “worry a lot”. A majority of the kids included in the study were adopted while about 14% were born via a surrogate.
Many of the dads in the study shared that they had difficulties in adopting, finding a surrogate, and sharing custody of their kids.

About 20 to 30% of respondents admitted to being discriminated against. Surprisingly, majority of those responsible for this were their family and friends as well as their religious community.
1/3 of the parents revealed that they’re child had been bullied at school because of their parents’ sexual orientation.
A recent study by UCLA, University of Amsterdam, and Columbia University attests to these findings. Their research also concluded that children of same-sex parents show no difference in development than those growing up in heterosexual households.
Their research found that relationships within the family, as well as health, emotional well-being, and coping mechanisms were similar in both kids of families.
This new data further supports what many people have been fighting for, that regardless of a parent’s gender or sexual orientation, they are capable of becoming nurturing, responsible parents who can create a loving home where children are raised in a manner where they can thrive, feel safe, and be loved.
