Sa isa niyang latest Instagram post ay binuksan ni Kylie Padilla ang tungkol sa topic ng depression. Ito ay bilang pag-aalala at kaniyang paraan ng pagsuporta sa Mental Health Awareness Day.

Ayon kay Kylie, noong una ay hindi niya alam ang ibig sabihin ng salitang depression. Bagamat nararanasan niya ito at minsan na siyang tinawag na “depressed” ng mga taong nasa paligid niya.

Noong una ay hindi maintindihan ni Kylie ang kaniyang nararamdaman. Lalo pa’t wala ding gustong alamin at pag-usapan ang kung anumang nararanasan niya.

“A lot of the people responsible for my well being always labelled me as “depressed” among other things. During a time when things were so confusing and so traumatic, these harmful words were being thrown around to try and silence and calm a very messy storm in our lives. And maybe it was just a quick and easy way of trying to pacify the situation so that just became the resolution. You are just depressed. To the point where it felt like what I was feeling felt invalid and didn’t even matter enough to be heard or even discussed.”

“I remember feeling so angry when I heard anyone even say the word. That word almost instantly dehumanised me. At that time I didn’t understand what that word even really meant, but since that was my label, I guess that’s what I was?”

Epekto ng depression

Mabuti na nga lang daw ay na-realize niya ang “danger” na maaring maidulot ng kaniyang nararamdaman. At imbis na itago natutunan niya kung paano ito harapin na kinalunan ay naging daan para maialis siya sa pagkakalugmok sa kondisyon.

“It was only later that I began to understand how dangerous it was for the situation to be handled that way. During that time I was feeling emotions I did not yet understand, I did not know how to process them or work through them. So naturally, I just kept silencing them until they came out in my behaviour.”

“It took some few years of denial, self-pity, rebellion and breaking down of the ego for me to realize that I was in need of some healing from a past that wasn’t handled so well. And in a lot of positive ways, I’m proud of who I have become.”

Depression sa pagiging ina

Sa ngayon si Kylie ay buntis sa pangalawa nilang anak ng aktor na si Aljur Abrenica.

Nito lamang nakaraang buwan sa isang panayam ay inamin ni Kylie na siya ay nakakaranas ng perinatal depression.

Ayon sa Healthline ang perinatal depression ay ang collective term sa depression na nararanasan ng isang ina matapos manganak o postpartum.  Na sasabayan ng depression habang ipinagbubuntis ang bago at sumunod niyang sanggol.

Ayon kay Kylie, ay nagulat siya sa kaniyang nararamdaman lalo pa’t noong mga panahong ipinagbubuntis niya ang panganay na si Alas ay napakasaya niya. Ngunit kabaligtaran daw ang kaniyang feelings noong nagsisimula ang pagbubuntis sa kaniyang baby #2 na kung saan naging very emotional siya.

“Eto, hindi ko siya naintindihan bigla na lang nagba-blank ako tapos lumala ‘yong anxiety ko so kaya akala namin girl.”

“Nagulat ako sa perinatal kasi kay Alas talaga super saya ko I was really happy I didn’t feel anything.”

Pero mabuti na nga lang daw at matibay ang support system niya. At sinubukan niyang ilabas sa mga productive ways ang kaniyang nararamdaman.

“Pero OK naman na ako kasi ‘yong support system ko naman matibay eh. Si Alas, my family and friends.”

“Nilalabas ko in other ways, like I write. May project ako on myself na ginagawa. Binubuhos ko doon ‘yong passion ko kasi siyempre ‘yong outlet ko ‘yong acting ‘di ba.”

Panibagong aral at leksyon

Sa kaniyang naranasan ay may muli na namang na-realize si Kylie. At natuto niyang tingnan ito sa positibong paraan sa pamamagitan ng aral at leksyon na kaniyang natututunan.

“This one parang mas kailangan, ewan ko ba parang kailangan ko pa hanapin sarili ko in this one, parang ‘yon ‘yong journey ko ngayon. Sino ba talaga si Kylie?”

“It has something to teach you, parang may something inside you na lumalabas para i-tackle mo ‘yon. Nata-tackle ko naman siya.”

Noong Agosto kasabay ang selebrasyon ng 2nd birthday ni Alas ay inanunsyo ni Kylie ang kaniyang pagbubuntis sa kaniyang baby #2 na isa na namang boy.
