What is a Level 1 Reader?

Ang best level 1 reading books ay may pare-parehong characteristics. Ang bawat pahina nito ay may simpleng vocabulary na may familiar high-frequency words, repetition, at illustration.

Sa pagbili ng libro para sa iyong anak, importanteng akma ito sa kaniyang reading level. Tinatawag na level 1 readers ang mga batang lima hanggang anim na taon. Ito rin ang age kung kailan magsisimula na sa kindergarten ang iyong anak.

However, not all publishers follow a category sa pagpublish ng books according to reading level. As a result, nalilito ang parents kung anong reading books ang angkop sa kanilang anak.

Para malaman kung angkop ba sa iyong anak ang level 1 reading books, do the five finger rule. Kapag naka-encounter ng lima o higit pang unfamiliar words sa libro, ibig sabihin ay masyado itong mahirap para sa kanya.

On the other hand, masyado namang madali kung walang unfamiliar words sa libro. Ang book na may two to three new words per page na maaari niyang matutunan ang perfect for your level 1 reader.

Paano pumili ng best Level 1 reading books in the Philippines

Maraming level 1 reading books ang available sa Philippines. Para malaman kung ano ang best para sa inyong kids, narito ang ilang dapat i-consider bago bumili:

  • Theme – level 1 reading books have many themes. Examples ay tungkol sa love, friendship, good vs evil, adventure, fairytale, science at iba pa. Piliin ang tema that will encourage your child na magbasa.
  • Plot – Choose books na may simple plot at mabilis maintindihan ang kwento. However, make sure na hindi rin ito boring para sa iyong anak.
  • Vocabulary – Books with repetitive and rhyming words may help para mabilis na matandaan ang mga bagong salita. Avoid books with too many complicated words.
  • Design – To encourage kids na magbasa, piliin ang reading books na maganda at makulay ang disenyo o illustrations.
  • Additional activities/features – May books with additional features para sa interactive reading. Ang ilan ay may kasamang games, pop-up characters, sounds, at lighting effects. Best ito para ma-motivate ang iyong anak na magbasa.

Easy ways to teach your child na matutong bumasa

Teaching how to read is a complex process. But may ways to teach your child na ma-develop ang needed skills for it.

To help your child ma-develop said skills, subukan ang mga ito:

  • Umawit ng nursery rhymes – Rhyme at rhythm help para maging pamilyar ang mga bata sa sounds at syllables ng mga salita. Best way ito para magkaroon siya ng phonemic awareness.
  • Gumawa ng simple word cards – Cut out cards at sulatan ng three words with different sounds. Papiliin ang iyong anak ng card then read the word together. Ipaulit sa kaniya ang pagbigkas sa words sa kung paano niya ito narinig. Helpful ito sa pag-build ng phonics at decoding skills.
  • Print-rich environment – Expose them sa environment kung saan maraming makikitang printed words. For example posters, charts, books, labels, billboards, signage, atbp. Mag-focus sa first letter ng words. Tanungin ang iyong anak kung anong sound ang magagawa niya sa nabanggit na letter.
  • Play word games – Introduce simple word games. Choose ones that encourage listening and identifying word sounds.
  • Use Level 1 Reading books – Read with your child daily. Ask questions tungkol sa librong binasa to exercise their comprehension.

Be patient – Best way to teach reading is to let them enjoy learning. Huwag masyadong i-pressure ang sarili at ang inyong kids. This is because iba-iba ang developmental process ng bawat bata.
