Raelin Scurry from Pittsburgh, in the United States was only 29 weeks pregnant when she suddenly started feeling some contractions. She initially thought that they were Braxton Hicks contractions, or contractions that happen before actual labor. However, she became worried when the contractions started getting worse, and they happened closer together.

She wasn’t aware that she was about to give birth

With the pain steadily increasing, Raelin figured that the best thing to do was to go to her doctor.

She shares, “I called 911 because I was so scared. They couldn’t understand me between the screams with contractions. So I handed the phone to my fiancé.”

Little did Raelin know, she was about to give birth to her son. And it was much more amazing than she expected.

“My miracle baby was there”

As the contractions slowly got stronger, Raelin and her husband immediately rushed to go to the hospital. As her husband was driving, Raelin took off her pants and felt that her son’s head was coming out. “I pushed one time and my miracle baby was here,” she shares.

What’s more amazing was that her child was born still wrapped in his amniotic sac. This type of birth, called an ‘en caul’ birth only happens in 1 out of every 80,000 births, so it’s extremely rare.

However, her happiness quickly turned into worry, since she realized that her son wasn’t moving. Her fears were then quickly put to rest as she shared, “I rubbed his face with my thumb and he pulled his little hands and feet up to his face as if he understood my prayers and wanted to reassure us he was okay.

“We are so blessed to be his parents”

Her son, EJ was born at only 29 weeks, and he weighed only 3 pounds when he was born since he was premature. But now, EJ is a very healthy baby boy and he’s developing well.

“He’s doing wonderful, all things considered with all he went through I know he’s going to be an awesome little man! He is truly a miracle baby. We are so blessed to be his parents,” Raelin shares.
