Chances are, you’ve already seen and heard about the latest viral craze happening online, the ‘Mannequin Challenge’. A recent video of the challenge that was staged to look like a shootout has led to drug and gun charges.
The viral video tipped authorities off
The one minute video showed a number of people pointing guns at each other, simulating a shootout in a residence. The video immediately went viral, which tipped off local authorities to the home. There, they seized 2 handguns, an assault rifle, and a handgun. They also confiscated 2 bags of marijuana, and a computer.
Madison County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Salomonsky shared that a copy of the video was sent to the sheriff’s office, which prompted an immediate investigation. He shares, “The criminal investigation/narcotics unit through their investigation was able to obtain enough probable cause to get a search warrant for this address.”
Law enforcement officers were shocked
Kenneth Fennel White, 49, and Terry Brown, 23, were arrested during the raid. White faces charges of first-degree possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. Brown on the other hand, faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering and promoting prison contraband.
Law enforcement officers at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that they were shocked that people would even think of creating a video of a mannequin challenge in the same place where they sell drugs.
Both of them are currently being held on bail.

What you need to know about viral internet trends
Back in the day, trends were usually all about a new dance move, a new type of fashion, or even a different manner of speaking. But now, because of the power of the internet, trends come in all shapes and forms, including viral video trends.
While some trends are just fun, and others are for a good cause, there are some trends which are can be very risky for your child. Here’s a few things to always keep in mind so that your kids are always safe:
- Know the trends that are happening. There are a lot of trends that are happening online, and it’s easy to get lost in all of it. Do your best to get yourself updated with the latest happenings, so that you know what your child might be into these days.
- Make sure to know what your kids are doing online. While we don’t advise stalking your child’s online activity, you should do your best to know what they’re posting, doing, and browsing online. It’s your job as a parent to keep your child safe, and with the unpredictability of the internet, the best thing you can do would be to know what your kid is doing.
- Ask them to think twice before doing an online dare. If you hear your kids talk about being interested in doing a dare, tell them to know the consequences first and to take a step back and think about whether or not it will do them good. Being impulsive is sometimes a good thing, but in some cases, it’s always better to think twice.
- Remind your children not to give in to peer pressure. More often than not, it’s peer pressure that makes children do a lot of these dares and other viral trends. If your child tells you that a friend or one of their classmates is making them do something they don’t want, tell them that it’s okay to say no and not give in.
