Mark "Mac-mac" Cardona, who is currently playing for the NLEX Road Warriors, was recently rushed to the hospital after he ingested a potentially lethal cocktail of various medications in apparent attempt to take his own life.

NLEX Road Warriors Team Manager Ronald Dularte released an official statement to the public, saying:

“We urge the public to allow Macmac and his family to have privacy at this difficult time. Macmac is part of the NLEX Road Warriors team. We are providing whatever assistance he needs from us during this time. Thank you.”
Support for Cardona began pouring in over social media.

His older sister Rowena told TV Patrol that Mark had been battling severe depression: "Sabi niya sakin ate, di ko na kaya.“Nararamdaman ko na may balak siyang gawin sa sarili niya."

She also expressed her gratitude to former PBA coach Binky Favis, who found Cardona in his house in Merville subdivison in Paranaque and helped bring him to the hospital.

Just two days before his apparent suicide attempt, on August 19, Cardona was reportedly brought to the police for allegedly being domestic abusive towards his live-in partner, Bianca Cabildo-Jackes.
