Even a Midwife Panicked When Her Baby Experienced THIS—Jessica Ducusin Shares: "Ibang Level Pala Pag Anak Mo Na!"

Even a Midwife Panicked When Her Baby Experienced THIS—Jessica Ducusin Shares: "Ibang Level Pala Pag Anak Mo Na!"

Even a midwife can panic when it’s her own baby. Jessica Ducusin shares her journey from fear and funny first-time mom mistakes to becoming a compassionate parent and trusted parenting content creator.

When babies are born, midwives are often the first hands to welcome them into the world. For Jessica Ducusin, a 41-year-old midwife at Medicard Philippines, helping mothers through childbirth has always been more than just a job—it’s her calling. She has spent years guiding women through the most vulnerable, transformative hours of their lives.

But when she became a mother herself, Jessica realized something surprising: all the medical training in the world couldn’t prepare her for the emotional rollercoaster of parenthood.

“Kahit alam ko anong dapat gawin bilang midwife, nawala lahat ng training sa utak ko nung nilagnat ng 39°C ang baby ko. Doon ko talaga na-feel na ibang level pala kapag sarili mong anak.”

That single night—filled with worry, fear, and helplessness—humbled her. It became a turning point that reshaped not only how she saw motherhood, but also how she carried herself as a midwife and later, as a content creator.

More Than a Midwife, A Mom at Heart

Jessica’s life is a juggling act of roles. At work, she is calm, steady, and knowledgeable, offering comfort and guidance to pregnant women. At home, she is a wife to Brian and mother to three children. And online, she has built a platform that reaches thousands of parents, sharing stories, tips, and slices of her own family life.

Her daughter, who shares her passion for dancing, often appears in her content. For Jessica, these lighthearted bonding moments are just as important as the serious lessons.

“Watching my children grow into their own unique personalities and being their safe place through every stage of life—that’s the most rewarding part of parenting for me,” she says, eyes lighting up at the thought.

Lessons Learned the Hard Way

Like many first-time moms, Jessica admits she didn’t always have it together. Despite years of training and clinical experience, she wasn’t immune to rookie mistakes. She laughs now when she remembers how she once panicked over her newborn’s sneeze, or how she bundled her baby in layer upon layer out of fear of colds.

But for her, these missteps became building blocks of compassion.

“Mas naging compassionate ako—not just sa sarili ko, kundi sa ibang moms din. Bilang midwife, naka-focus ako dati sa medical side. Pero nung ako na ang nanay, na-realize ko na kahit alam mo ang tamang gawin, mahirap pa rin maging kalmado. Kaya ngayon, mas naiintindihan ko ‘yung fears ng mga nanay.”

This transformation deepened her approach to both work and content. She was no longer just teaching from the head; she was speaking from the heart.

Sharing Hope, Not Perfection

If you scroll through Jessica’s social media, you won’t find the glossy, impossible standard of “perfect motherhood.” Instead, you’ll see her honesty, humor, and relatability. Some posts feature parenting hacks, while others capture real-life moments—messy hair, unplanned chaos, children singing in the background.

“I want other moms to know they’re not alone. Parenting doesn’t have to be perfect—as long as we lead with love.”

Even in her most practical tips, Jessica injects warmth and tradition. One of her favorites is a classic midwife’s remedy:

“Tummy massage with warm coconut oil. Classic ‘yan sa amin. Kapag nagkakabag o hirap tumae si baby, minamasahe ko ang tiyan niya clockwise gamit ang konting warm oil. Nakaka-relax siya, and mabilis din guminhawa si baby.”

It’s wisdom passed down through generations, proving that sometimes, the simplest methods are still the most powerful.

Balancing Work, Family, and Passion

Being both a professional midwife and an online creator hasn’t always been easy. Jessica admits she had to learn how to set boundaries to protect her time and energy.

“One parenting challenge I’ve overcome is balancing my time between work, content creation, and being fully present for my kids. It was hard at first to manage everything without feeling guilty or overwhelmed. I overcame it by learning to prioritize what matters most—my family.”

She created routines, minimized distractions, and even invited her children into her creative process.

“I created a routine that allows me to set boundaries for work and screen time, so when I’m with my kids, I’m truly with them. I also involved them in my content creation sometimes, which turned work into bonding moments. It’s not always perfect, but I’ve learned that being intentional with my time and energy makes a big difference.”

Why She Shares Her Parenting Journey

For Jessica, content creation is more than just clicks and views. It’s about connection.

“As a working mom and midwife, I’ve experienced the ups and downs of raising kids while juggling responsibilities. I realized that the little moments—whether it’s dancing with my daughter, handling tantrums, or managing mom guilt—are stories that other parents can relate to. By sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire, uplift, and remind fellow parents that it’s okay to not have everything perfect—as long as we lead with love.”

Her stories are not polished performances—they’re real, unfiltered glimpses of what parenting looks like for so many moms.

The Values Behind Her Platform

Jessica believes her platform has to stand for more than parenting hacks. For her, it’s about grounding families in values that truly last.

“Through my platform, I want to share the values of love, patience, faith, and being present for your family. I believe that parenting isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up with love every single day. I also want to promote joy in simple moments, like dancing with your kids or sharing meals together, and encourage other moms to take care of themselves too. Most of all, I want to remind parents that their efforts matter, and that raising good, kind-hearted children is one of the most powerful things we can do.”

On Being Part of TAPfluencer Community

Jessica’s work extends beyond her own platform. She is an active member of theAsianparent’s TAPfluencer community, which she says has given her both inspiration and a sense of belonging.

“One of my favorite experiences was joining a TAP campaign that focused on parent-child bonding—it reminded me how important it is to be intentional with our time, especially with my daughter who loves to dance like me. Being part of this community also opened doors for me to share my story not just as a mom, but also as a midwife, helping other parents feel more confident, especially during pregnancy and early motherhood. It’s an honor to grow as a creator while also learning from others who inspire me every day.”

Dreams and Messages for the Future

When asked about her future, Jessica answers in two layers—one for her career, and one for her family.

Her dream as a creator is to strengthen her online presence, so she can continue inspiring moms across the country. But as a parent, her dream is far more personal.

“I hope to be someone they can always look up to, not just as their mom, but as a woman who pursued her dreams with heart and purpose.”

She wants her children to see her not only as a caregiver, but as a role model of resilience, balance, and love.

Her message for other parents is filled with encouragement:

“Be kind to yourself and remember that parenting doesn’t have to be perfect—love and presence are what matter most. There will be hard days, but those moments don’t define you or your family. Celebrate the small victories, cherish the laughter, and know that your efforts are shaping beautiful, resilient children. You’re doing better than you think!”

Hi, I’m Hazel Paras-Cariño—Head of Content at theAsianparent Philippines, proud mom of two, and passionate storyteller at heart. With over 11 years of experience in content strategy, digital marketing, and editorial leadership, I now lead our content across web, app, and social platforms to serve one of the most important audiences out there: Filipino parents. Whether it's creating informative articles, engaging mobile experiences, or meaningful social conversations, I believe content should connect with both data and heart.

Before this role, I worked as App Marketing Manager and Web Content Editor at theAsianparent, and previously contributed to NGOs, tech, and creative industries. I hold a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication, but my real education comes from balancing deadlines, diapers, and the daily chaos of motherhood. When I’m off-duty, you’ll find me painting, dancing, or exploring imaginative stories with my kids—sometimes all at once.

Let’s keep creating content that informs, empowers, and uplifts families.
