Mother Sara Guidry has shared that he son, Kale, ‘always kept us on our toes’. And one day, while her son was playing, she noticed something white in his gums, and to her horror, she found a fingernail stuck in his gums!
“The dentist has never seen anything like this”
In her Facebook post, Sara shared that after pulling out the fingernail stuck in his son’s gums, she saw 4 more in the same spot. She then took a pair of tweezers and checked his mouth for other signs of fingernails that might be stuck in his mouth.
Shockingly, she found 27 more fingernails that were stuck in different areas of his mouth. According to Sara, “The dentist has never seen anything like this.”
It’s because of nail biting
According to Sara, they think that what might have happened is that her son has a habit of biting his nails, and then playing with the nails in his mouth.
The nails then push up against the soft palate of his mouth and get stuck inside a pocket between his baby and permanent teeth!
That’s the probable explanation as to why Sara found 27 fingernails stuck inside her son’s mouth, which means that he probably has been doing it for a while. Good thing he didn’t get any infections or abscess from the fingernails!
Nail biting is caused by numerous issues
Nail biting can happen because of a number of issues, among which is anxiety, and stress.
If your child is a nail biter, it might be a good idea to see if they’re stressed out in school, or if they’re anxious about something. It’s important to address those concerns first before seeking out professional assistance.
In some cases, cutting your child’s nails short, as well as providing them with an activity to help keep them distracted and their minds away from nail biting.
It isn’t an easy habit to deal with, but with persistence and a little bit of effort, you can help your child get rid of their nail biting habit.
