To the Mom Who Sold Her Two-Week-Old Baby for ₱45,000: A Mom-to-Mom Open Letter

To the Mom Who Sold Her Two-Week-Old Baby for ₱45,000: A Mom-to-Mom Open Letter

A Batangas mom was arrested for trying to sell her two-week-old baby for ₱45,000. Here’s the story—and a mom-to-mom open letter reminding us why no child should ever be treated as a price tag.

August 15, 2025 — News broke of a mother in Tanauan, Batangas who was arrested after attempting to sell her two-week-old infant online for ₱45,000.

According to reports from GMA Integrated News, the entrapment operation revealed that ₱25,000 was meant to pay hospital bills and ₱20,000 for the baby’s supposed “adoption.” Police also rescued her one-year-old child during the operation.

The mother, a single parent, explained that desperation drove her to such a decision:

But selling babies is illegal under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, with penalties reaching up to life imprisonment. Both sellers and buyers are held accountable under the law. The rescued children are now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

An Open Letter, Mom to Mom

Mama,

Nabalitaan ko ang ginawa mo, and my heart broke.

Worst case, pwede siyang:

  • Maabuso at saktan

  • Mahulog sa human trafficking

  • Lumaking walang pamilya o pagkakakilanlan

A Plea to All Moms

To every mom reading this: hindi tayo nag-iisa.

???? Need help?

  • DSWD Hotline: 8888

  • PNP Women & Children Protection Center: (02) 8532-6690

Hi, I’m Hazel Paras-Cariño—Head of Content at theAsianparent Philippines, proud mom of two, and passionate storyteller at heart. With over 11 years of experience in content strategy, digital marketing, and editorial leadership, I now lead our content across web, app, and social platforms to serve one of the most important audiences out there: Filipino parents. Whether it's creating informative articles, engaging mobile experiences, or meaningful social conversations, I believe content should connect with both data and heart.

Before this role, I worked as App Marketing Manager and Web Content Editor at theAsianparent, and previously contributed to NGOs, tech, and creative industries. I hold a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication, but my real education comes from balancing deadlines, diapers, and the daily chaos of motherhood. When I’m off-duty, you’ll find me painting, dancing, or exploring imaginative stories with my kids—sometimes all at once.

Let’s keep creating content that informs, empowers, and uplifts families.
