According to a 2013 report, then 8-month-old Xiao Bao was stabbed more than 90 times by his own mother after he accidentally bit her while breastfeeding. Xiao Bao, who lives with his mother and two uncles, was found in a pool of his own blood in front of their home before one of his uncles rushed him to the hospital.

Xiao Bao received over 100 stitches as doctors worked to mend the wounds the mother inflicted with a pair of scissors.

Contrary to neighbors saying that the baby was better off without his mother, government officials said that they would return the child to his mother as it was determined that she was not suffering from any mental illness. Furthermore, officials said that apart from the mother, Xiao Bao would be under the care of his two uncles.
