Celebrity moms share the best parenting advice they got from their own moms

A mother's wisdom is truly timeless. Just ask these moms who have drawn strength from their own moms when they became parents themselves!

Motherhood isn’t a an easy road to travel, so it’s a good thing these celebrity moms have had their own loving moms to guide them on their journey!

Lotlot de Leon shared in a previous interview with Rappler that she’s learned “so many things” from her “mama guy”, better known as the award-winning actress Nora Aunor. “But siguro the things I try to teach my children that I’ve learned from her is to be respectful towards other people regardless who they are regardless where come from. And to always be humble.”

For Ormoc Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez, the most memorable parenting lesson was how to respect a “wise No.”

“I always say na maybe it’s the kind of ‘no’ that only time will tell that it’s a wise ‘no.’ When I look back at my own growing-up years, there were so many things about which my mom said:, ‘Pagsasawaan mo rin…hindi naman kailangan magmadali (You’ll get tired of it… you don’t need to be in a hurry.),” she explained.

Businesswoman Tina Knowles, the mom of pop stars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, learned the importance of inner beauty at an early age.

“I have always stressed to my girls that outer beauty fades but inner beauty lasts forever,” she said in a previous interview. “Simple things like smiling and looking people in the eye could change someone’s bad day into a good one. My mom always said that beauty is as beauty does, and I’m sure it will pass along to all the future generations of our family.”

On decision making and generosity

Oscar winner Halle Berry’s mom Judy’s advice about parenting was simple: “Before you do anything life-changing, call me!”

Veteran actress and singer Vina Morales’ mom’s advice also involved decision making.

“My mom always reminded me to prioritize [my daughter] Ceana in every decision I make,” she told the Inquirer in an interview. “She taught me to manage my schedule wisely and allot special time to bond with my kid.”

Mom Dimples Romana wants to impart generosity in her kids, a value she learned from her own mom. “As a mother, I love seeing my kids grow into kind adults,” she gushed. “Baking, cooking, spending time outdoors and playing old-school Pinoy games allow us to bond as a family. My mom told me to always be giving.”

On instagram, she once again paid tribute to her mom: “Learned everything I needed to know about being a mom from my Mama. Mula sa pagaalaga hanggang sa pagluluto. Now we get to spend time together taking care of my kids and cooking for the whole family!”

27-year-old actress Melissa Ricks, who has a 2-year-old daughter, learned the value of patience from her mom.

“I love the fulfillment motherhood gives you, and the knowledge that, with your child around, you have a best friend for life,” she shared. “My mom taught me patience. Do something one step at a time…you won’t learn everything all at once. Don’t be hard on yourself.”

For Nikki Valdez, she learned how to keep the faith amid life’s struggles.

“My mom taught me the importance of praying, whether what I’m going through is good or bad,” she told the Inquirer. “The Sunday Mass is a must. She was supportive in everything that I did…[saying] she’d always be there to catch me when I fall. It’s true: Mother knows best.”
