Neighbors grabbed blankets and comforters to catch the toddler as the police climbed up the apartment.

In the Dongguan district of Guangdong Province, south China, neighbors looked on in horror as a toddler clung to his life on a balcony railing five stories up.

As it turned out, he and her grandmother was playing on the balcony earlier, but the grandmother had accidentally locked the boy out, said the Epoch Times. Realizing that he could go inside through a window, the boy made his way inside by climbing up onto the metal railing mounted on the balcony sill.

The toddler had a hard time going to the window, and as a result lost his footing and began to cry as he clung to the railing.

Soon the people in the area began to realize what was happening. When neighbor Xu Bayi heard the anxious cries, she searched for its source and saw the toddler’s leg dangling precariously over the balcony edge.

“Help, there’s a kid about to fall off the building!” she shouted.

The police were immediately alerted and arrived on the scene.

“Do not move, little kid! Do not move, little kid! You do not move,” yelled policemen to the toddler perched precariously on the curved metal railing on a balcony sill.

Neighbors grabbed blankets and comforters to catch the toddler as the police climbed up the apartment. But before the police could reach the boy, he lost his grip and was sent plummeting down.

“There was no time to get a mattress, so we rushed to get some quilts and asked several people to stretch them out,” one neighbor said. “We stretched them out as best as we could to catch the boy who might fall down at any moment.”

Thankfully the blankets caught the boy, and after an examination at the hospital, it was discovered that he didn’t suffer any injuries.

“All my family a was watching from our balcony,” the toddler’s mother told reporters of Southern China Daily. “I was hugging my son so tightly and my legs almost gave way. It took me a long time before I could calm down and I was not able to fall asleep last night.”
