Just early this year, a nurse in New Mexico, U.S.A. accidentally cut off a premature newborn’s left pinky toe while removing surgical tape. The newborn also struggled with a hole in his heart and had to be intubated.
Because of his condition, he remained in the hospital months after he was born—even when his twin brother had gone home already. Despite attempts by the orthopedic surgeon to reattach his toe, he wasn’t able to restore circulation, causing the newborn to completely lose his toe.
