Parents posting naked picture of their children online sparks debate

Parents posting naked picture of their children online sparks debate

“Too many pedos kicking about to be plastering naked pics of your children all over the shop, no matter how innocent you think it is.”

There’s little doubt that parents are proud of their children and want to show them off as much as they can. But sometimes they can simply be too much. At least, that’s how one mom feels.

On a popular website for moms called Netmums, one user expressed her displeasure after seeing so many photos of babies (some of them naked) on Instagram and various social media accounts.

Parents should be the ones protecting their children’s privacy, she says, not the ones violating it.

“This really bothers me and I don’t know why! I’ve had to unfollow a few people,” user Charlotte A(402) said. “But I don’t understand why you’d put a nakey video of your kids on the internet for everyone to see? I mean really who knows who is looking at that and I just feel bad for the kid.”

Not everyone agrees with her point of view, however.

One user named Helen S(1536) says that she has naked photos of her children on her social media.

“I think it depends on what you’re comfortable with,” she adds. “We are a very liberal family when it comes to nudity generally.”

User Lizzy C(20) agrees with Helen, saying that such photos of babies don’t bother her in the slightest.

“I assume none of these images are remotely explicit or taken against the child’s will. I’m guessing they are just capturing a happy moment,” she says. “The naked body is such a taboo these days, it really shouldn’t be.”

Charlotte responds by saying her family is liberal, too, but not online.

“I just remember reading a few years ago a pedophile website in Finland had been taking photos from Facebook pages and the parents complained but couldn’t take action because it was a different country,” she replies.

Another user, Lisa H(2385), agrees with Charlotte, saying she even deleted people for posting naked photos of their children.

“I hate seeing it for exactly the same reasons,” she says. “Too many pedos kicking about to be plastering naked or semi naked pics of your children all over the shop, no matter how innocent you think it is.”

Whichever camp you personally feel for, there is no denying that we live in dangerous times, and anything that we publish online can be used for nefarious purposes.

That’s why it’s important for parents in particular to be careful of their internet activity and the kind of information they decide to share, even if they think posting a photo of their children is innocent.
