Actor Paul Walker’s untimely death was one of Hollywood’s cruelest ironies. The Fast and Furious star perished in a car accident while in the passenger seat of his Porsche. He had just come from a charity benefit dedicated to the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
His driver, Roger Rodas, was driving the car while Paul was in the passenger seat.
Three years later, his 16-year-old daughter Meadow is still crying out for justice. Back in September 2015, she filed a lawsuit against Porsche for her father’s wrongful death based upon vehicle defect claims.
Meadow’s attorney Jeff Milam told People, “The issues in the cases are very different. Meadow’s father, Paul Walker, was a passenger in the car. He survived the crash but was trapped and burned to death because of the vehicle’s defects.”
Roger’s wife, Kristine, also supports Meadow’s claim that the Porsche Carrera GT lacked basic safety features that could’ve saved the two men’s lives.
These defects were allegedly: faulty suspension, no racing fuel cell, no racing cage to withstand an impact from the side; no electronic stability control system, “specifically designed to protect against the swerving actions inherent in hyper-sensitive vehicles of this type.”
Insufficient evidence ruled against them but they’re not giving up
On April 4, 2016, a U.S. District Judge ruled that there wasn’t enough evidence to support these claims but Meadow’s lawyer assures Paul’s fans that this will be appealed, saying, “Meadow will continue to fight to hold Porsche accountable for selling a defective product that kills.”
Roger’s children and Meadow’s grandfather have also filed lawsuits against Porsche.
With her quest for justice comes a desire to continue her father’s legacy. The 16-year-old has put up the Paul Walker foundation, to honor her late father’s “passions and goodwill”.
Their mission is to “serve as an enduring light of Paul’s unique spirit, far-reaching goals, and spontaneous goodwill…by helping ocean leaders of tomorrow become beacons in the fight to protect our oceans, wildlife, and ourselves”.
