K Brosas, a singer and comedian, recently shared a photo on Instagram saying that she visited her friend, fellow comedian Pokwang, in the hospital.
She and her baby are safe
Pokwang was already 44 years old when she got pregnant; coupled with the fact that she’s currently in the risky 2nd month of pregnancy and the overall risky nature of mature pregnancies, doctors have advised her to be more careful during her pregnancy.
Brosas reassured Pokwang’s fans that her friend and her baby are both safe, “don’t worry ok na sha, kelangan Lang nyang maging mas maingat at bawal halos gumalaw… pero ok naman si baby obrian.. pero sana include nyo naman po Sila sa prayers nyo para mas maging smooth at safe ang buong pregnancy… Salamat po! Lablablab!”
However, she did not disclose the exact reason why the comedian was taken to the hospital in the first place.
Mature pregnancies can be risky
Mature pregnancies, or pregnancies over 35, while possible, have their own set of risks that mothers need to know about.
For older pregnant women, the chance of getting a cesarean, or a C-section delivery is greater compared to younger women. Additionally, they are also more prone to excessive bleeding during labor, which is a huge risk that has to be considered by women who want to get pregnant after 35.
Other risks include prolonged labor, which can last for more than 20 hours, labor that doesn’t advance (hence a C-section might be needed), and an increased possibility that the child born might have a genetic order, such as Down syndrome.
However, by closely working with your physician, even mature pregnancies can be safe. It’s important to always get monthly check-ups and monitor your health, and generally be more careful as older pregnancies are high-risk pregnancies.
