Road to Paris 2024: How EJ Obiena is preparing for his Champion journey

With less than a year to go until Paris 2024, the world can rest assured that the Champion journey of EJ has only just begun.

MANILA, Philippines, January 3, 2023 – Ernest John “EJ” Obiena, the first Filipino to secure a slot to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is undeniably one of the country’s brightest athletes. The record-breaking pole vault athlete is well underway in his preparations to make history in Paris.

Currently ranked as the 2nd Men’s Pole Vaulter in the world for 12 weeks straight, EJ continues to bring pride to the country as a MILO® ambassador whose story is a testament to the power of grit and perseverance to succeed in life.

“The goal is to win, and to do that, there’s going to be a lot of training, training camps outside of the country,” he mentioned during a video interview, emphasizing his commitment to excel as a competitor on the field but also serve as a source of inspiration to young and aspiring athletes.

EJ’s Champion journey to success

In an interview, EJ shared that one of his biggest wins this year was his silver medal at the World Athletics Championship as he set his new personal record, raising the Filipino flag. Followed by his gold at the Asian Games and SEA Games for a triumphant victory and a testament to his unwavering dedication to mark the Philippines’ mark in his sport.

On a personal note, he also shared that one of his inspirations to excel in the world of sports was renowned Swiss Tennis player, Roger Federer, further sharing that “I want to understand what made him so composed – the way he matured into what he is now. Roger has done so much in Tennis that is not achievable by just being an ordinary guy.”

In the midst of his preparations, EJ acknowledged the support of MILO®, a brand known for nurturing young athletes to become Champions. Aside from being his favorite nutritious energy drink, MILO® has been a significant partner in EJ’s athletic odyssey. It shows its dedication to strengthening Philippine sports by not only supporting its elite athletes but more importantly through partnerships at the grassroots level, one of which is the recently kicked-off Batang Pinoy that EJ himself competed in as a kid.

As EJ Obiena doubles down on his preparations for Paris 2024, it becomes clear that his story is not just about athletic triumphs, but about the unwavering spirit of a young man reaching for the stars, both on and off the pole vault pit. With less than a year to go until Paris 2024, the world can rest assured that the Champion journey of EJ has only just begun.
