Stay at home moms: No more excuses not to have fun!

15 Aug, 2014

Stay at home moms, do you find yourself saying, "Oh, I'm too busy to do this nor that!"? If yes, this will tell you why you should make time for yourself!

Stay at home moms: No more excuses to not have fun!

Stay at home moms: No more excuses to not have fun!

When you become a first-time mom, your being too busy to get out of the house is understandable for a certain period of time. Why? Because there’s no one-size-fits-all parenting manual that tells you what to do and how to do things for your baby. You’re still figuring things out, your child’s sleeping patterns, how to handle your baby/child and more. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to deprive yourself of fun!
Here are the top 5 excuses that new moms give to get themselves out of doing certain things and their corresponding reasons as to why it shouldn't hold them back!
I can't go out because I have to stay home with the baby!

I can't go out because I have to stay home with the baby!

You may not be able to go out, but you can definitely bring the party to you! Why not hold a coffee-tasting session and catch up with friends? Hold a themed-dinner party, have friends bring their own dishes and judge who has the best-tasting dish? Throw a Zumba party and sweat it out with your closest girlfriends! There’s so much that you can do in the comfort of your own home! The icing on the cake? Even while having a blast, you’ll be a mere couple of steps away from your baby’s room!
I don't have time to return emails or messages!

I don't have time to return emails or messages!

No matter how busy you are, always make it a point to reply to emails or messages. Becoming a mother is a wonderful thing. However, do not let it consume you. Remember that you are also a wife, a friend, an office worker and more.

If people take the time to send you a message checking up on you or to invite you out, acknowledge the effort and reply to them. However, if it is unnecessary work email and you’ve already filed for a maternity leave, take care of the first message and remind the sender of your situation.
I'm too busy for "me-time"!

I'm too busy for "me-time"!

We hear this time and time again, "There aren’t enough minutes in a day to get things done”. While this may hold true at times, it is impossible for one to be busy 24/7. Being busy is a matter of choice and time management. As a mother, recognize that you are not superwoman and that sooner or later, you will burn out. Backed up by a loving network of family and friends, you have people who are willing to babysit your child for a hour or two while you head out for "me-time".

Going to the gym, getting a massage or hitting the salon does not make you a bad mother. In fact, it helps you become a better parent because if you take care of yourself, you will be in better condition to take care of your child and your family. Block out an hour or two every day or every other day for "me-time”. You may feel guilty about it now, but down the road, you’ll thank yourself for it.
My single friends don’t understand what I’m going through!

My single friends don’t understand what I’m going through!

There may be times when single friends give unsolicited advice that may rub you the wrong way. So what do you do? Do you throw your hands up and give up on them? No. Keep in mind that as a parent, you are in a completely different phase of your life and while their advice is appreciated, it’s time to strike out on your own and to look for mommy friends.

This doesn’t mean that you let go of your old friends, this means that you simply expand your horizons. Look for women who have children the same age as yours or older. Ask them for advice, let your kids play while you chat over tea. There’s so much you can learn from fellow moms, everything from the best breast pump to what play schools to enroll your child in. Not only does this help you as a mother, but it keeps your social life alive as well!
I don’t feel sexy for my husband anymore!

I don’t feel sexy for my husband anymore!

Having to take care of a newborn is so exhausting that you can't possibly do anything else because you have to conserve your energy! Even if it means giving up your sex life! Right? Wrong! As mentioned earlier, even if you are a mother, you are a wife. Let’s be honest, if you want to stay the only wife or only woman in your partner’s eyes, you have to take care of his needs too. You may feel that your post-baby body is not as hot as your "single lady body”, but chances are, your husband may not care as much as you do.

Simple sexy tip? SURPRISE HIM. Your husband may have gotten so used to you giving him excuses for not wanting to get intimate that when you initiate it, it’ll catch him off guard and it'll get him excited to get to bed! Try it, you’ll be happy you did in the morning.
