Hung Chang Lai, a 40-year-old Taiwanese national who kidnapped his 3-year-old daughter, was arrested by the NBI last Monday.
He will be facing a kidnapping case
He reportedly took his daughter to Baguio City from Angeles, Pampanga, without informing the child's mother, who was his estranged girlfriend.
According to Hung's girlfriend, he hurt her and forcibly took the child from her custody. He also threatened to take their child far away.
She added that he also hurt her helper when he went to her home in Angeles, Pampanga, to take her daughter.
She recounts, "Sapilitan niya pong kunin yung bata. Tapos pinagbabalak niya pa pong ilayo sa akin yung bata ko. Pangalawang beses niya na 'tong ginawa sa'kin. Sobrang worse pa nga yung una. Kasi ginapos niya ako sa bahay, kasama yung katulong namin. Parang wala siyang awa. Tapos ngayon naman kinuha niya yung anak ko, wala din ako. Siguro kung andun din ako, malamang, bubugbugin niya na naman ako"
NBI agents tracked the Taiwanese national to an apartment in Barangay M. Roxas subdivision, and found him with the child. NBI Cordillera said that Hung will face a kidnapping case even if he is the child's father.
He was not acknowledged as the father in the child's birth certificate
Based on reports, Hung was not acknowledged as the father in the child's birth certificate.
NBI Special Investigator Ronald Pangan shares, "Kidnapping siya in a sense dahil kinuha niya yung anak niya forcibly without the consent of the mother."
He is currently awaiting trial at the Baguio City Jail. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines has also sent a request for a copy of the report regarding Hung's arrest.
