During my 3rd pregnancy, my OB advised me to have a tubal ligation. For my third CS delivery, I've decided to go for ligation. It felt like self-love. Every pregnancy is different. I can say that this is true because my second pregnancy is far different from my first one.

I delivered my first pregnancy via C-section due to cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD). C-section was not easy because it is a surgical procedure.

If you give birth via this kind of operation, the possibility of your subsequent pregnancy deliveries is more likely to be caesarian too.

My first CS was when I was 22 years old and my second was when I was 26. The second CS was harder than the first and when I became pregnant with my third child, it was a lot harder.

Even if it was hard, tubal ligation was not an option for birth control in my opinion. Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure for female sterilization in which the fallopian tubes are permanently blocked, clipped, or removed.

My doctor was suggesting that I consider tubal ligation after my third CS operation, but I told her that I am not interested because I’m still young. She asked me how old am I and I answered 30.

And she laughed and told me I am not young anymore, she added that after my third pregnancy, possibilities of complications were high if I were to have a fourth CS operation if I do not consider tubal ligation.

I am still dreaming of having a fourth child because I wanted a big family and I grew up in a family of four kids. I have one brother and I feel like it is kinda lonely. Then I realized, if I will not do it, I'm putting my safety at risk.

My first child is now 8 years old and my second is 4. Though I feel like I am still young, I sometimes feel like my body is tired of being a mom.

Taking care of kids and working 8 hours every 5 days a week is hard. Plus, there is going to be a plus one in the family. Therefore I thought, I should do it for myself. I should not avoid it because the elders say I am still young or the other people say I should give birth to a 4th child.

My tubal ligation story

Making decisions

Things that came into my mind were, if I will consider having ligated at my 3rd CS, I will not have the chance to get pregnant again permanently and I can have time for myself after raising my kids.

Your priority changes after having kids and I am caught out by just taking care of my family. I almost forgot myself. Family first before anything else

People at my age are enjoying their youth. They can travel, have fun or eat whatever they want. They can do whatever comes into their mind. But as for me, it is different. I can't travel or go out whenever I want.

My routine is just taking care of kids, go to work, then come back home to make dinner. I am happy because I have my kids, but I wonder if I will be happier if I can also have myself.

During my 3rd CS operation, I agreed to tubal ligation. It hurts a lot more than CS operation. My doctor says that fortunately, I made my decision because the lining of my ovaries is becoming thin already. Therefore, it is a good decision I've made for myself.

Now, I am fully healed and currently 4 months post-partum and I am happy. I am excited to see my children grow up. I am sharing this experience with all the mothers out there that are having a hard time making a decision about a permanent birth control method.

Listen to yourself and your doctor, not to those people around you making comments or suggestions as if they have the right to decide for your body. Sometimes, they tend to give some advice without even knowing the advantages and disadvantages of their advice.
