Find out how video games might be good for your child

Are you feeling guilty for buying your kids a video game console? Well, you can relax now as researchers from the University of Rochester say video games can actually be good for kids.

According to their findings, children who played games were quick thinkers and had very good eye-hand coordination. They came up with this conclusion after doing a series of tests with several video gamers. What’s more interesting is that they encourage parents to play games to improve their memory and enhance their brain function.

However, critics say that video games shouldn’t totally replace outdoor play. Kids should still spend time playing with their friends outdoors as they can learn more skills just by playing tag with their friends or climbing trees. They say that kids shouldn’t socialize with their friends through online video games but through personal interaction.

The basic point is, parents should just come up with a balance. It would be unwise to ban their kids from playing video games as these things are definitely here to stay. What parents can do is to limit the time that their youngsters spend in front of the computer so they can still play outdoors and socialize with their friends.
