Every year, Ascott Makati transforms one of its suites into a themed experience that celebrates Filipino creativity and culture. This 2025, they’re turning the spotlight on a beloved childhood treasure — Filipino children’s books.
A Room Full of Stories
The two-bedroom Adarna Books Suite is designed to spark imagination in both kids and adults. Inside, you’ll find familiar scenes and characters from classic Adarna titles like Si Laleng at ang Lakbay Paaralan, Alamat ng Ampalaya, Ang Mabait na Kalabaw, Tara, Itok! and more.
Every detail — from the pillowcases to the placemats — features artwork by Filipino illustrators, turning the space into a colorful, story-filled wonderland. One of the bedrooms is even inspired by Florante at Laura, based on Adarna House’s annotated edition.
“We aim for every project to proudly reflect Filipino identity,” shares Cecille Teodoro, Cluster General Manager of Ascott Makati. “The Adarna Suite celebrates our language, the writers who share our culture with children, and the illustrators who bring those stories to life. We hope both kids and adults enjoy their stay.”
For the Love of Reading
The heart of the suite is its cozy reading nook, filled with over 20 Adarna House titles — from picture books and young readers’ favorites to young adult novels and graphic novels.
Guests can browse works by National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario, including Si Pilandok at ang mga Buwaya, Ang Ambisyosong Istetoskop, Operation Taka, Si Janus Silang at ang Tiyanak ng Tabon (10th Anniversary Edition), Ibong Adarna, and Si Pagong at Si Matsing.
According to Izo Lopez, Marketing Lead of Adarna House, this collaboration couldn’t have come at a better time.
“We’re celebrating our 45th anniversary this year, and our mission to nurture Filipino language and culture through children’s books remains as strong as ever. Through partnerships like this, we can reach new readers and show both local and foreign guests the beauty of Filipino storytelling.”
A Celebration of Inclusion
To launch the Adarna Books Suite, Ascott Makati partnered with Best Buddies Philippines, a non-profit organization that promotes inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Children from Best Buddies enjoyed a fun afternoon of storytelling featuring Noel! Noel! Leon! Leon! and Tara, Itok!, plus art activities like tote bag and bookmark decorating. Each child went home with their own Adarna book and a cuddly Ascott Cubby.
“For children — with or without disabilities — having a safe space to turn to, whether it’s within the pages of a book or through a partner that fosters inclusion, is incredibly important to us,” says Michelle Aventajado, Executive Director of Best Buddies Philippines.
