5 Unusual ways to have the best sex life with your spouse

Want to spice up your sex life? Here are some tips worth trying in the bedroom, according to scientific studies.

It doesn’t matter if you’re newlyweds or if you’ve been together for decades, all couples could benefit from expert-approved tips on how to keep the fire burning in the bedroom.

Over time, sex can feel more like routine, busy schedules can cause a decreased libido and can snuff out that spark between you and your partner.  Sex shouldn’t be a chore, especially for moms and dads who have to deal with working, caring for the kids and keeping the home tidy.

For years, scientific studies have established that the benefits of sex are not just momentary, it also helps reduce stress, lessen the risk of heart disease, and it can even boost your immunity. Most importantly, a great sex life is one of the key factors of a happy and healthy relationship. This, alone, is enough reason to make sure you and your spouse are living your best sex life possible. Here are some science-backed tips to get you started!

1. Smell like sweat, pumpkin, or lavender

Skipping the cologne and letting their natural scent take over will work well for men who want to turn their wives on. A 2007 study found that a woman’s hormonal levels change when they smell male sweat, specifically androstadienone, which is one of its components. A man’s sweat leads to sexual arousal as well as physiological arousal, improved mood, and brain activity.

To arouse your hubby, you can try opting for a lavender or pumpkin-like scent. The latter may sound strange, but according to Medical Daily, it increases penile blood flow and sex drive. It also has a relaxing effect and have also been found to arouse women. Other similar olfactory aphrodisiacs for women are licorice and cucumber.

2. Get more sun!

Getting more sunlight actually improves your sex life, according to a study published in Clinical Endocrinology. How? The sun’s rays give us a healthy dose of Vitamin D, which has been known to increase a man’s libido and testosterone levels.

So hit the beach or go outdoors and soak up some much needed sunlight to heat things up in the bedroom!

3. Eat spicy food

Before you get super sweet and make love, spice things up—literally! It’s been found that men who are fond of eating spicy food have a higher sexual drive because of increased testosterone. More than liking it “hot in the bedroom,” spicy-loving foodies have also shown higher aggression, social dominance and “daring behaviors.”

4. Watch a scary movie

Sure, you’ve heard the dating tip of watching a scary movie to “get closer,” but its benefits also extend to the bedroom. Scary movies have been found to affect the body’s sympathetic nervous system (SNS), increasing its activity, thereby causing genital arousal. But don’t just take our word for it! Refer to this 2011 study published in the Psychophysiology journal. Scary movies before sex can help arouse you and your partner and boost your libido.

According to a 2011 study from the Netherlands, keeping your feet warm by wearing socks increases your chances of achieving orgasm as opposed to when you go barefoot. This is linked to the “decrease in amygdala and prefrontal cortex activity,” which are the parts of your brain which process fear, anxiety, and danger during orgasm.

“A pleasant environment, which includes the room temperature, is an important part of making her feel safe, secure, and comfortable,” Dr. Gert Holstege, study author told Medical Daily.
