It's a boy: Birth photographer snaps surprising news

It's a boy: Birth photographer snaps surprising newsIt's a boy: Birth photographer snaps surprising news

“I was shocked for a few seconds, and then it didn’t matter if it was a girl or a boy"

Jessica Jackson of Itty Bitty Photography was hired by Koto Nakamura and Sina Niankansafy to capture the beauty of Koto’s childbirth on camera. While Jessica and the expecting couple anticipated a whirlwind of emotions to surface on the day of delivery, they definitely didn’t foresee any surprises.

Much to their surprise, that’s exactly what happened.

Nakamura and her husband were told after numerous ultrasounds that they would be having a baby girl. For months, the couple prepared for a daughter and even went as far as to name her. The couple decided when their daughter was born, she’d be wrapped in a pink blanket, and her name tag would read: Hinata.

Well, things don’t always turn out the way you expect.

Needless to say when Nakamura learned that she had just given birth to a beautiful baby boy, she was genuinely surprised:

“This photo was taken the moment Koto looked at me for clarification that her daughter was actually a son,” Photographer Jessica Jackson told The Huffington Post. “Koto had thought she had misheard or misunderstood the doctor. She thought he was joking!”

“They were shocked initially, but then after a few minutes and they could comprehend and understand what had happened, they were so happy and discussing baby boy names and planning camping adventures with their little man,” she continued.

“I was shocked for a few seconds, and then it didn’t matter if it was a girl or a boy,” Nakamura told TODAY in an interview.

Ironically, the Koto’s midwife had discussed the possibility of Nakamura birthing a boy earlier that day. Jessica Jackson recalls the coincidental conversation: “Earlier in the labor, the midwife on duty had told us a story of something similar happening a few years ago. We all laughed it off saying ‘Oh, imagine if that happened to Koto’ and then it did! The midwife totally jinxed us.”

Call it woman’s intuition or an incredible coincidence, but either way, the couple went home with a son and not a daughter! In any case, the couple was happier than can be and they were equally excited about having a son. Jackson recalls the feel of the room post-announcement, claiming there was “Lots of excitement and laughter and happy tears from laughing so much. Lots of jumping around and disbelief and jokes.”
