A 4-year-old girl died after she was run over by a speeding truck in Barangay Masalong, Labo, Camarines Norte last Friday, August 18.
She suddenly ran off and crossed the road
According to CCTV footage, 4-year-old Janine Aylas was with her older sibling when the incident happened. As the both of them were getting off the tricycle, Janine suddenly ran off and crossed the road while her sibling was paying the driver.
As she was crossing the road, a speeding truck accidentally hit the 4-year-old, causing her to die on the spot. Residents could be seen on the video immediately rushing towards the 4-year-old’s aid, but due to the speed and strength of the impact, she didn’t survive.
The truck driver, Porferio Lausin Jr., said that he was caught unaware when Janine suddenly crossed the road. He added that he tried to swerve to avoid the child, but due to his speed, he was unable to do so.
He was placed under arrest, but was freed after the victim’s family agreed to settle the matter outside of court.
