Alyssa Milano: ‘I don't know if I'm going to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight'

The celebrity mom gets real about her self-inflicted weight loss struggles after giving birth and how she overcame them

Celebrity moms are just like every other mom. But it continues to baffle their fans when, after giving birth, they manage to lose weight in a flash.

Alyssa Milano admits to feeling pressure to lose the baby weight at lightning speed—just like most celebrites.

The 43-year-old actress/host opens up to E! News and admits that a large part of this was “self-inflicted”.

It’s not hard to understand why she would believe this when every day our social media feeds is filled with celebrity moms shedding baby weight almost instantly, placing unrealistic expectations on their fans and followers.

“Any pressure I felt is from seeing other celebrities get down to their pre-baby weight in two weeks,” Alyssa said. “I just know, for me, that’s just not in my make-up, biologically. There is no way I could have dropped all the baby weight in two weeks, I don’t know how they do it!”

She clarifies, however, that her “happy weight” differs from her “goal weight”.

“There are so many variables, you don’t know what a goal weight is especially when you’re 43 and you just had a baby, I don’t know if I’m going to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight,” she told E! News. “I’m breastfeeding also, it’s a big part of it, and so, I just call it my happy weight.”

Pilates is everything. And my coach @ginaizad inspires me to be the strongest version of myself. Work hard. Eat Atkins. Strong.

On reaching her “happy weight”, she says: “I don’t know if I’m going to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight.”

The mom-of-two confesses to giving herself a weight loss deadline: a year and a half.

“I reached my happy weight when my daughter was 18 months, and I did it through Atkins,” she recounts.

Pairing her diet with spin class, Zumba, and Pilates, she lost about 55 pounds a year and six months after giving birth to her second child.

The breastfeeding advocate also revealed that breastfeeding didn’t help her lose weight: ”I don’t think breastfeeding helps at all! Those same people are getting into their skinny jeans three weeks later, no matter if they’re breastfeeding or not,” says the actress/host. “I didn’t have that and actually with my son, I didn’t lose the last ten pounds until after I stopped breastfeeding, so I think it’s different for everybody.”

It’s refreshing to see a celebrity mom actually owning up to struggling to lose the baby weight. And, there’s nothing more inspiring than a mom who’s comfortable in her own skin.

When and how to lose their baby weight is a personal decision moms must make—-if at all.

Many moms list fitness as one of their top postpartum priorities. But, this isn’t always the case.

The important thing is to stay healthy for yourself and for your baby.
