What is infant Colic?
This is a very common worry of parents. Picture this scenario: you’ve done everything you can for your baby: you’ve changed their diaper, you’ve fed and burped them, you rocked them back and forth. They are still restless. This could be a sign of colic, which is common. You must be patient and try and make your baby burp some more. The bigger the burp, the bigger the relief, for you and baby!!!
Some signs of colic are that baby puts their knees to their chest, and they turn red and crying. This can go on for an hour! Try to find a comfortable position for you and your baby, then gently but firmly, pat their back so the excess air in their stomach can be released. It usually is that simple, but it does take patience.
But why is there even excess air in the stomach to begin with?
Well, sometimes when they are feeding, whether on the breast or especially if they are fed on the bottle, you will notice that they may sometimes pause, and during this pause air still gets in, and obviously, this goes in. This happens especially those kids that are bottle fed because there is naturally a lot of air in the bottle because of the bubbles formed by the milk inside the bottle.
So don’t panic! Just work with your baby and their burping. Once you get the rhythm of this, we are sure the instances of colic will go down dramatically!
Good luck parents! :)
